There are planned road works in this area starting from the 10th Sept. they started installing SPECs around the 15th. There's no 50mph signs yet but the average speed cameras are there.

Does anyone know whether they are they on yet? Went through this evening and didn't see them in the pitch black until I got past a pair. The road works have not yet started and again, there are no signs indicating a reduced speed limit yet.
 
I think when they are active then there will be spot lights on etc near them. Don't believe they have flash built in.

Anyway, there should be a sign next to the post saying CAMERA NOT IN USE.
 
There was no pre warning of roadworks in the next 3 miles, 2 miles, 1 mile etc. Then no reduced speed limit, or free recovery signs. However, there were no Camera Not In Use signs. So I assume it was NSL.

They were the new smaller SPECS, I believe they don't need a spot light as they are laser?

They are not enforcing NSL. They may enforce it after the roadworks are completed but even that is unlikely.
 
All SPECS (Average Speed Detection Systems) are ANPR they do not measure speed at all (as such) so no lasers.

Also they are infra red so do not need any kind of visual lighting, they have infra red illuminators mounted either side of the camera unit.

They work in pairs to read the number plate of a vehicle, as said vehicle enters a stretch of monitored carriageway, then another reads the plate as the vehicle leaves that stretch

The system measures the time the vehicle took to travel between the two fixed points to calculate the average speed taken by the vehicle to cross the measured distance.

The shortest average speed check zone in the UK is located on Tower Bridge, London and is just less than a mile in length. While the longest average speed camera zone in the UK can be found on the A9 in Scotland between Dunblane and Inverness and covers some 99 miles.

I assume that by the new "smaller" SPECS you are in fact meaning the VECTOR average speed cameras. Built by the same firm they are also ANPR and also INFRA red but have the lights built in and also have two cameras per unit so that they can if needed to cover two lanes of bi directional traffic, they are more often seen on dual carriageways or contraflows.
 
Doesn't really matter now does it, if you were being a naughty boy then you're either ****ed or fine :D
 
Thanks for all your input, I guess I'm over reacting.

I always stick to roadworks speed limits and sit at 50 when sign posted so it would be annoying if anything came back.

I even stick to 70 when through smart motorways when the signs are off. I'm quite careful.
