Length of service

19 years in a previous job in yorkshire ,but redundancy was the catalyst to get me down to cornwall , 2.5 yrs in currant job

Well done.

So far I've been with one employer for 6 years and another also 6 years and I am employed by them both. I anticipate working for one of the companies up until I can retire but hey who knows what will happen.

Thinking of moving to St Austell but scared of the lack of work .

Will have no mortgage and a small rental income so don't need big money . I've been looking but not tested the job market . Are there permanent 40 hour minimum wage type jobs available, driving store work ect ?

In 2 weeks i'll hit 30 years , but the cheeky ******* dont recognize the first 2 years of service as it was on a YTS. The joys of working for a large multi national....

very very easy to get low paid jobs ,we have been offered rewards to find people at my place , i also am mortgage free so only earning a shade under £8 hr but thats fine as we do a 4 day on 4 off followed by 3day on 3 off shift , so awesome long surfing weekends;)

This sounds like my kind of lifestyle! I plan to rent out my place a few years down the line when my mortgage is paid off to cover rent or mortgage on a small place elsewhere and get a noddy job so I can do the things I want to do.

I suppose it must be 14 years or so, will probably do another 18, depending on conditions, and the various government meddling.
We'll have to see what state the world is in, and what state the books and accounts are in come 10 and 15 and then 18 years.
Might have to move on sooner, but hopefully will not have to side step too much.

Certainly past 6 or more years have been basically income frozen, with expenses spiralling, can't take to much more of that, but can't see any easy way around it without shifting region/country. Not preferring that option due to family influences.

Longest I've worked in a company is 6 years. I wouldn't be against the idea of working for a company for longer but I just haven't been in the situation where this would work for me.

What industries do you long termers work in?
Mostly public sector of some sort?

In my industry I have been at my employer for 3 years and im one of the longest serving.

I guess that exhibitions is something people do for a bit and move onto something easier and with better pay and hours :D
Really should look for a new job.

So far 9 years. Aiming for 22 years for a full pension with the scope to sign up for longer depending on situation. Seeing as the pension is calculated from an average of your career wage, the quicker you promote the better. Seeing as I've promoted quick, I'm happy to remain and push that average up :)

Probably not end up doing longer than 30 years, but it's comforting to think I can afford to retire at 47yrs old if I wanted.

Lot of assumptions here, so please fill in the blanks! Sounds like HM Forces and as you say AFPS15 is a Career Average pension - there is also talk of AFPS20 which MAY be contributory.

I am surprised to hear that you could afford to retire at 47 - so 30yrs service? If you have 9 yrs in, you joined in 2007, so initially under AFPS05?

LOS30 is for seniors so saying you get to FS - which under AFPS05/AFPS15 will give around £11k pa with a £55k lump sum. Give it a try:

Also you no longer need to do 22yrs for an IP, it is now 18yrs service / 40 yrs of age.

I've completed almost 23yrs with my current employer and have a contract until 2027!

I took early retirement at 55 with 35 years in and company made my pension up to the 40 years max- been retired now for 17 years and been best years of my life - Wife has been retired for about 14 years and although we do not have a big income (well below national average) we are sailing along.

Another 20k would help but yo ho.

Down side is the local paper with it's births and deaths, is listing loads of work colleagues - a lot of them younger than me. :)

22 years for a full pension how? In the nhs its 40 years and the nhs pension is seen as being very good.

Armed forces I'd guess?

Correct! :)

I think the armed forces pension is the last of the decent non-contributory ones still out there. They've slowly eroded it away but it's still better than others. Still, it is prudent to pay into a private pot too.

Yes 22 years for a full pension at 47yrs old. If I continue to 30 years the pension is of course much better. I've done the online pension calculator. I could afford to retire at 47 if I wished.

35 years this month.

Started 1981 with Fairclough Civil Engineering Ltd
1984 they combined with William Press to become AMEC Ltd. I was transferred over same office.
2007 AMEC sold our division to Morgan Est Ltd. I was transferred over, same office.

It is all down as continuous service with Morgan Sindall Ltd.
Currently still here but only one year to go.
