Car Suggestions - Around £10K

I've managed to meet and exceed the figure for all of my cars :p But only when I actively tried to get the best consumption I could.

I'm guessing you haven't driven anything remotely modern then? Anything in the last 8 years basically struggles to get quoted figures. This is due mostly to the "standardised" testing method employed to get the figures. And how it is in no way relevant to real world driving. However, as almost every new-ish car uses this method, it can be used to compare one car against another. Just not against real world driving.

Older cars, yes, you can often get very close to, or break, the quoted figures.

I never use the Bluetooth streaming in mine, just have everything I want on USB.

Yeah, im one of those guys who constantly listens to music when driving, going from 64gb to swapping cd's aint so fun.

I'd use the call functions but i keep swapping phones due to warrenty issues on the z5 so its out of comission atm.

Sadly mines bog standard radio with no idrive, and aftermarkets cheaper for what i want. Ironically of all the things i want in a car radio being a radio is bottom of the pile.

At least she drives nice.

Might have to try an automatic just to see but surely it's not as good as a manual when it comes to acceleration etc? I'm no expert at all.

I dont think for normal road usage a 328 is going to have a problem with accelleration.

Dont know about the newer ones, but mine has a switch in the throttle with the sole dedication to the phrase "drop a gear and dissappear".

You're right, the newest car I've owned was 10 years old (56 plate)

Maybe another thread? This one is £10k +- £1k.

I did ask a few posts back what I could get for £15K just to see what's what. I'm guessing he has read that :)

Really £10K is ideal, can probably push to £12/13K and £15K is absolute max and only really if I can't get anything cheaper that's suitable.

Sorry for the confusion guys!

Oh right. Well blow the budget and get the F30. It'll be way better than any E9x you would get. You can always try knocking a grand off and see what happens.

And as Fox has said, that gearbox is great. Looks like an almost perfect motor for your needs.

You can always ask for it without warranty to see if you can get it cheaper, and then take out the inevitably better BMW warranty.

People who want a quick car but want it to be fairly economical for commuting purposes.

Someone claimed 20MPG around town from a diesel Fabia, I was calling them out on it being BS. I wasn't trying to compare my car to a petrol hot hatch. :p

So are you telling me that a Golf GTI 2.0TSI or a Focus ST 250 wont get 50MPG on a good motorway run at 65~ MPH with smooth throttle inputs? If so then that kinda sucks. I thought things had moved on more than that. I obviously don't expect any will get close to that figure if you stick the cruise control to 80 and sit back. :p

no, London to Preston - 38tops iirc.

The highest I've ever gotten out of a tank in my T5 engine is 36mpg, I average about 32mpg. I guess I could hit 40mpg if I drive between motorway service stations at 50mph but I don't think 50mpg would be possible at all.

I can top 50mpg from my Fiesta ST180 (with MP215 upgrade) on a careful motorway cruise, tested recently. That's the best I've ever seen from a petrol engine. Much of it is probably down to the lightness of the car though.
