We are thinking of getting a gloss grey kitchen with white worktops but we are now rethinking it maybe too dark and the gloss may need to be cleaned all the time, the room is 13ft x 23ft with one large window above the sink.

Do anyone have any advice ?

There are a lot of shades of grey, so it's difficult to comment on that.

My only one piece of kitchen wisdom is to make sure you get granite/quartz/marble work surfaces so a) you can put hot stuff on them b) they don't suffer from water ingress.

Thanks, we are thinking of granite/quartz/marble.

this is the one we have seen and the reason for the grey.

And while it may bbe an on trend look right now, in a few years it'll be terribly dated. Worth considering if you might be selling up in the next 5-10 years.

Dark gloss is a nightmare.

+1 Fingerprints and keeping it looking clean is tough

I dont think it would make the room look dark though- as long as lighting and tiles/ splashbacks/ wallcoverings in rest of room are coloured right

I think a contrast between cabinets and worksurface is great, but dark high gloss will be a nightmare to keep clean - have you got kids? We've got matt white in a handle less bar design and it really hides finger prints well. On the other hand our honed black granite worksurface is a real pain to keep clean.

A lot will depend on how much light you have in the kitchen. Do you have a lot of natural light and large windows?

Hmmmm, we were going for the Greenwich gloss in graphite grey from Howdens, starting to think white gloss might be a better idea now.... now I have to choose another worktop. gah.

Howdens do a greater range of worktops than on the website. I have specced the below laminate, which is a nice light grey:

WKP1860 Lt Stone Eff Sq Edge 3m 616 38 W/Top

That will be in combination with Clerkenwell gloss white cabinets.

Yes we have kids, we have one large window on one of the walls.

beware the trendy kitchen that will date massively! I'd be looking for something more timeless if I was spending that sort of money! I'm always put off high gloss by the finger prints and inevitable scratches that will ruin the look pretty quickly!

Agreed, that's one of the reasons we went with oak units. The worktops are sparkly black quartz and (in my opinion) they look absolutely fantastic.

Agreed, grease will damage the gloss finish over time and then you'll have hazy units.

I've got light grey matte finish shaker units.

If you have granite/quartz/marble surface, even though it is heat proof, would you actually put a pan/fry-pan/wok off of the hob, or an oven dish, directly on it, without need for a trivet of some kind - is it that resilient ? if so ok - that changes the game

The only reason I ever use a trivet is if I don't want the worktop to draw too much heat out of the baking dish/roasting tray/whatever.

If I'm taking something out of the oven and I'm finished with it then I put the straight on the quartz worktop and leave it there until it goes in the dishwasher.
