Hi Guys,

Posting here as everyone is always very helpful and full of knowledge. I bought a laptop off some other company that cannot even stand in the shadow of OCuk (but OCuk didnt do a similar product so I had no choice). Anyway its been 11 months since I bought the thing and I have only just found out about the fault.

I took off the back of the laptop to look to see if there was dust causing some seriously hot temps on the CPU to find the following:

I'm used to desktops, where the entire chip is covered, and you can see the processor is only partially covered here.... anyone come across something like this before? Also,is a laptop that has been used for 11 months along with a CPU @ 95c+ when used going to be damaged?

I cant get in touch with the company that supplied it until Monday (have some other problems as well with the screen)... but wanted to see what you guys made of it. Is it just a assembly fault or instead a manufacturing defect? OR just me being thick?

Thanks,

Grady

Looks like the IHS is fully covered to me, Most laptops cpus run extremely hot in comparison to their desktop counterparts, 95+ is in the realms of normal.

Looks exactly like it's supposed to be to me.

Hmm, okay, guess it just looked odd. Guess I am used to desktops where the heatsink entirely covers the CPU chip. Sucks that 95+ is the norm... :(

Thanks harry! Can be closed, just me being thick.

The difference is on a desktop you have a big large area for mounting so the chip is hidden from view.
The bi you are cooling is the "Core" the middle die.

In a laptop when you are desperate for space you just cool the bits you need, the die is completely covered so all is good.

I do agree being able to see a cpu when its does seem very strange :)

95oC seems a bit hot even for a laptop
Reapply tim maybe?not sure about warranty if you do this though
No fluff?Fan working properly?
