msi 1080 or titan xp?

Titan XP is a waste of money, you can pretty much buy 2x 1080's and SLI them for the price of one.

Especially if you are only gaming at 1440p, the 1080 is a 4k card.

FWIW......I went up to a TitanX P from a 1080 on the main system to iron out some of the baseline frame rates at 3440x1440. An expensive option to be sure, but only yourself can answer whether it's worth it as the Titan is the complete opposite of value for money - but I will say, that extra oomph on top of the 1080 (especially under water) is extremely tangible.
Steering clear of SLI for the forseeable future, so there's only one card that fit the profile of best performance+best detail.

Been looking at getting a MSI Gaming X 1080 but now wondering if paying an extra for a Titan XP is worth it?

I haven't encountered any issues with the MSI Armor 1080 at 2560x1440.
Is a very fast card.

However TXP is on average 30% faster at double the money. Your call.
Rather buy the 1080 and next year a top of the range Volta/Vega.

Ain't worth to spend 1200 on a card than in 6 months going to be outdated, as happened to all Titans.

And add bit sarcasm, don't spend 1200 on a Titan X, because it looks like all new good monitors coming out, support Freesync only. :/

To be honest you'd be better off getting two 1080's if your considering a TXP. In SLI they would be a good 40%+ ahead.

Your call, the TXP is really an under water card. On air unless your running a really aggressive fan profile it's just not worth it over a decent 1080.

I'd still say, 1080 SLI or single 1080. TXP is a waste unless it's under water.

1070 is good enough for 1440 anything else is overkill.

GTX 980 Ti is even good enough for 1440 although slightly older now bandwidth is still high due to 384 bit memory bus.

1080 & Titan XP are 4K GPU's. Sure you will get slightly higher FPS @ 1440 but most of the time your extra GPU power will be under utilised so your paying to have a Ferrari stuck in 2nd gear ;)

I can only echo the sentiments above, although I would say that buying two 1080s is very dependent on SLI profiles working correctly so you won't get stunning performance across the board going down that route. If you can AFFORD a TXP then by all means go for it. You won't be disappointed depending on what you're upgrading from.

Titan X if you can justify the cost. Sli from what I read isn't so great at the moment so 2x 1080 might not work well in some games.

Ignore the comment of anymore more than a 1070 is overkill - that's rubbish IMO.

SLI 1080s also require a mega CPU like 6850X so add another £2k to your budget to get the best out of them!

6850X + highend mobo + 4K Monitor=SLI 1080 capable & ready

Then if you have all of that buy SLI 1080s so your system can keep up with the FPS being supplied!!!

i wouldn't go that far. It's capable to play odd games in 4k yea but doesn't make it a 4k card. It's perfect for 1440p though. Depends if u like to lower odd settings to keep framerate upto 60FPS on newer games. But as games get more demanding as they always do then it will drop off quick.

1080 Ti is clearly going to be out in November for £200-300 less than a Titan XP watch those depreciate then!!

LOL@this, I almost fell out my bed reading that! :D

OP, dont fall for the red herring dreamers! :p;)

OP if you want the best get a Pascal Titan.

If you still need SLI get two Pascal Titans.

No one can predict the future but if we had to take a guess the Pascal Titan will outlast any card available today as it is both the fastest and packs the most VRAM.

Putting another way if the Pascal Titan becomes obsolete at some point the GTX 1080 will have been obsolete for even longer.

The downside to the Pascal titan is the terrible price.

As everyone has shown above its always going to be a mix of those saying its too pricey and those saying get it if you want the best so i'll just add a few things to consider:

1. TXP is only available from Nvidia, if you intend to take it apart and stick some water cooling on it you will 'officially' void warranty though i'm told there are no warranty stickers that you would break.

2. I've got 2 x 1080s, they are VERY good but i'm still debating swapping them in for a TXP - finally getting water blocks in a few weeks so i'm going to give that a go and think on it.

3. You don't need an X99 'mega chip' to SLI, realistically you can get by perfectly fine at 8x instead of 16x in a game scenario - it will benchmark lower but thats more synthetic as you will know

A single 1080 is likely to be enough for your resolution, so the question is what can you afford or what do you want - and would you rather spend the change (Vs. TXP) on some other upgrades? You are not likely to regret either so good luck!
