Circumstances force a move and I'm looking at hitting a few birds with one stone. I've wanted to move out of London for a while and now I've got the chance to do so.

Criteria:

max 1:15 by train to City of London. Can be Liverpool Street, Cannon Street, Bank, etc.

Must be NORTH of London as I have many friends in the Midlands, so moving closer to them would be a bonus.

Not a dive. I lived for years in a crap area and I can afford something decent-ish (to rent, not buy) so I'm looking for a nice area.

A few other random thoughts (these may or many not help, this is just me jotting stuff down as well).

My wife and I currently pay about £1800 with bills for a 2bed flat in London. As this will be mine only, I'm looking at about £600 for a one bed flat, but can go higher depending on various factors like whether bills are included or not. The reason I mention money is because it needs to be financially viable with a travel card taken in to account.

I will start commuting by scooter at some point which will make the travel card redundant and a scooter is much, much cheaper than trains.

Not sure what else really, let's see the best you can come up with :D

I hated London, no idea how people can live and work there.

Just filthy. I like living in cities though, just not London. Scooter idea is good though, I want to get myself a 125 and get rid of my car.

Just learn how to work on it myself and it's cheap as hell to run.

Your pointless post followed by your sig is rather ironic. :p:D

If you plan to travel by scooter in the future then that doesn't really give you much room to go that far out of London.

1hr by train could be Birmingham way on a good day (perhaps not to the centre though)

Bloody hell, I've just looked at season ticket prices to Welling, £6,7k a year

They're having a laugh. Might just buy a proper bike then, 70 miles each way on a bike is nothing.

Cambridge could be a good shout.

I live on the outskirts of Huntington, and the train is actually slightly quicker than the service from Cambridge.

Christ, you seen the prices in Cambridge?

I may as well stay here in zone 2 for that money. And what's with estate agents saying that it's a "1 bedroom flat" and then in the ad it says it's a house share. I don't want a bloody house share you flids

Maybe I should just rent a room here in London for a year or so and save up for a mortgage. Probably the most sensible thing to do but I really wanted my own place.

dont get a scooter get a decent 125/250cc bike.

faster, better on the major roads, safer, better handling, and doesnt make you a manjina
