Quiet(est) 1070?

I prefer nVidia's performance/watt, tbh. 1070 is about the same as my current card, 1060 is a decrease in electricities used and still looks to be twice as fast :)

Don't take the official power usage stats at face value. Nvidia's is/was average, AMD's was always max. So in some cases nvidia cards use more!

But there's not actually much in it with the newest cards. A 480 has about the same TDP as a 970 and 1070. In many dx12 games the 480 is better £ per FPS, in Vulkan even more so.

I'm exactly the same! I've only owned 3/10 cards which haven't needed an RMA! My experience is Gigabyte and EVGA are right at the top.

Good to hear, I'll give it due consideration :)

...thinking about it, my grand total of returned-as-defective hardware is over £2000 in the last 10 years... From various vendors I've had 2x monitors with visible defects, a graphics card, soundcard, RAM, and a laptop that went *red* screen on first use... I don't actually buy that much, it's just I have about a 25% chance to get a DoA :(

Graphics cards are by far my most RMAed component.

Do they use poor quality parts now or something? Back in the day they were never an issue. Of my last 5 cards, 3 have had issues.

My only graphics card RMA was many years ago, an ATI (then) that for some reason couldn't render transparency. Seriously, anything that should have been transparent was opaque. Rather spoiled... well, every game that wasn't bitmap sprites, really.

After much pondering, I've decided to wait for the EVGA 1060 SC to be in stock (here's hoping that it won't be ages).

I've often wanted to do a smaller PC build, so I might as well start by gathering petite parts :)

I bought a Palit Super Jetstream last week for my system which is pretty quiet (the noisiest thing by far wa the Zotac GTX 670 in it). Under stress the fans dont go over 45% utilisation and are silent. Out of interest I ramped them up to 72% manually ( the highest I could get them to go using Afterburner) and whilst you can tell they're on its more a change in the tone produced than an increase in volume. I'd say it's effectively silent - my already very quiet case fans now produce the majority of the noise.
Agree with this, have this card and its silent and cool and boosts like a mofo, very happy with it.

I suspect that a lot (if not the majority) of faults are due to solder joints going bad.

The combination of heat and lead free solder is likely going to cause problems.
