Car suggestions, £3k-£5k, bit of poke

That does look nice, but you are entering into Edition 30 money there. Which, with it's k04 engine, bigger brakes etc. and more exclusivity, would be the better buy.

Of course, you would struggle to find one with full leather, and you may need to install the RNS yourself.

Really? ED30 are usually about 10k for a decent one.

Mileage isn't that bad to be fair, sure, it would crack the 100k under the next owners ownership, but it's around the same budget as that GTI linked earlier, and I would have the ED30 all day long, even with 25k extra miles on it.

Both look about worth the asking IMO - just depends what you're priorities are. For a noticeable difference without modifications (or at least mods that you will pay for in terms of the ed30) you'll be wanting the older car.

The boggo gti does look clean though, that little bit newer and the spec has to add some value, the Nav and leather would cost a significant sum to add (albeit the Nav is easy to source and do). Then again does it have the Tsi or is that mk6 only? I wouldn't touch another early ccz engined car as you're onto a £400 + bill straight away just for piece of mind

Fantastic family transport. If you know someone that's ever had one, ask them about it and they'll likely rave about the car but moan about the dealers.

My mother loved hers, and always maintains she want another.

I can't talk though. I really like my Seat Alhambra, and everyone else seems to hate such things. I care not, it's usefulness has already more than paid for itself, and I have had to do the big ones since getting it (head gasket and DMF).

This ed30 is under 7k and under 100k and looked after by the looks of it so it can be done.

I emailed the guy about the BHP figure:
The Seller said:
You are correct the Edition 30 had 230 BHP as standard. However, when we, I say we as it’s my sons car but I paid for it, bought the car we weren’t informed that it had been mapped. This was only discovered when we went to an open day at TSR Performance and took advantage of a cheap power run to find it produced 281BHP much to our surprise. We have the print out for proof. However, we don’t know who mapped it. Sorry. All we can say it’s not as aggressive as a REVO (Which I have on my S3

Probably a superchips Bluefin or something. Mine never hit anywhere near what it should have, and a generic map on a ED30 should be closer to 300 BHP.

Still, at 280 it should still be fleet, and probably safer on the clutch.

OP was complaining that they couldn't afford £600 for fairly standard running costs earlier. How are any of these cars a good idea?

Indeed, but he also wants a change which is why £600 is hard to swallow. If you love your car then bills are easier to stomach.

Gone from £3k-5k budget, to stretching to £6k, to stretching to £6,950, to having to haggle to even get anywhere near £7k.

OP should just buy another new Multipla :p

Ha ha. I was thinking that too.

To be fair, it was me who suggested looking at ED30's though. And that was because I recently picked one up for a little over £6k, where the budget was stretched to by that point. I never expected it to go another grand up, and then try and haggle another grand off the next one too.

Keeping in the £3-5k budget, my money would be on a mk5 Golf GTI. Should be able to pick a reasonable one up for that money, so long as close to 100k doesn't scare you. But then it's not going to be much different from what you already have.

Indeed this. I don't fancy paying £600 and then changing it in three months time anyway!

In typical planning fashion my fifteen year old looks like he'll now be coming to stay with me so I may need to get the current one through its MOT first then see what happens. :(
