How do you fit gym in to your day?

I'm going into my final year of university but I've found it almost impossible to maintain gym during term time. Even when I was interning over the summer I still found it very hard to fit gym into my daily routine.

I'd rather go the gym regularly throughout the week than just on the weekends. The only solution I have so far is to sleep less, however, I already struggle to function on what I'm currently getting.

Does anyone else find it hard? Are my time management skills just very poor? Has anybody been there and done that - if so, how did you overcome it?

Squat stands, bench, bar, plates.

I used to go to gym, I hated the travel so I bought a home setup. Sure I don't have access to certain machines etc, but there are always alternatives. Obviously for you that's not an option.

You just have to go when you can, final year is supposed to be a grind. Obviously don't skip out on sleep though.

surely it should be easy enough to maintain, whatever lectures you have in a day just spend some time in the gym before going home.

at least thats my plan, what with the gym being on site and all its much more convinient to go when i'm already there.

How do you have so little time, how does anyone. Other than those who work like 12-14hr days then they should consider a life and career change.
Only issue I have is how the weight section is busy all the time until you get to about 11pm-6am.

I want home gym.

Depending what you want you don't need a gym, you could look at some sort of home equipment, or no equipement. Things like freeletics bodyweight app.

I usually spend 1.25 hours on a single gym session but I have to tube it from uni or walk 20 minutes to actually reach a gym that has the equipment I like to use.

I'm definitely guilty of spending more hours than necessary in the library to study, which is a big time sink. However, I'm always overwhelmed by a feeling of guilt if I don't spend at least X amount of hours in the library, especially near to exams where gym seems to completely disappears off the radar.

A home gym might be a good shout, actually. The equipment may be limited but it'd be very convenient to say the least.

Why measure what you're doing in terms of hours spent studying? Can't you think of a better metric for 'success', or give yourself less time and see if you can achieve the same amount? If you can't eg. carve out six hours a week to go to the gym, you're failing at life :p.

It's a mentality I can't escape from! I live my life by lists and often get caught up on something (e.g. if I don't fully understand it) which then delays the completion of other items in the list. I always aim to get the list done within a day, which is why I regularly spend too much time studying. However, this strategy, although not the most efficient, tends to work (except it usually takes the time up that could be allocated to gym )

Probably 20 minutes before I head off to work in the morning. Then 5 minutes during my morning break. A solid hour at lunchtime, 15 minutes in the afternoon and then about 6 hours in the evening until I pass out. I generally try to work with Tanqueray and Bombay Sapphire, however in a pinch Gordons or any supermarket bargain brand will do. My top tip is not to compromise on the tonic though - always stick with quality brands.

I fit mine into my sleep time. In other words I get less sleep, which obviously isn't ideal. But with a 1.5 hour commute, a 10 hour working day, another 1.5 hour commute home, kids to look after, then help with their home work and house work to do and finally get time to eat, I usually start at my home gym around 10pm or later. It's only achievable because I bought some weights and a bench and squat rack for home.

I cycle to work and back for cardio which gives me 40mins to an hours cardio a day. The time varies so much as sometimes I cycle a longer route for the fun of it.

Before I leave the house each morning I'll do 120 pressups. I have a gym on site at my works so I throw a Hurricane XS shake down for lunch and use the half hour lunch break to hit a muscle group.

In total I lose maybe 15 to 20mins of my day due to cycling instead of driving but get 1.5 hours of exercise a day. This balance works well for me to maintain my fitness and muscle levels.

In uni was the time I was most able to go to the gym!

I go several times a week. 9-5ish job and no kids

Pretty easy id have to say, I leave at 830 ish and come back at 7 ish pm and get to the gym at 10, back home at 12 and go to bed.

3x week that is.

When I was in my final year, we would go to the gym in the mornings where we didn't need to be in until late morning (around 10.30) or I would go in the evening.

I only worked 9-10.30am til 4pm in my final year and finished my thesis a few weeks ahead. I had every evening free. I feel I was particularly good at managing my thesis and was quite smug about having a ton of free time compared to friends who pulled many all nighters.

If you cannot spare 1 hour three times a week for the gym then yes, your time management skills are appalling.

EDIT -

Ahh, then you either have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or some related mental illness, which helps to explain things.

I walk straight to the gym from work. I'll usually have a pre-workout drink about half hour before I finish so I have no option but to go to the gym.

3-4 three hour sessions a week. No other major commitments.

I work 8-5 and hate how busy the gym is after work. I tend to wake up without an alarm around 4-4.30 anyway so get up and get to the gym for 5-5.30 each week day, nice and quiet, plus no getting stuck in traffic commuting into the city. Find it sets me up for the day, more productive than if I don't go. Main problem is swmbo doesn't like to go to bed early so not a huge amount of sleep.

I see it this way, if the gym is that important to you then you make the time to go. Just like with anything else in life. Its all down to time management.

I go 6 times a week, my job involves me traveling around the country. Yet I never miss a gym session.

Bought a power rack, with a pulley system and plopped it in a big wooden shed at the bottom of the garden, also has a treadmill in it for some morning cardio.
