I wasn't sure whether to put this in motors or the Blue Oyster Bar looking leather clad "biker" section :D

A 38yo man did 170mph on his bike past a shopping centre in Teeside and then posted the video on Youtube. Unsurprisingly he's now been arrested where it's been found that he's no licence, tax, insurance and is currently disqualified.

Now I admit that I sometimes speed excessively (some of you may have experienced this 1st hand at a meet) and it'd be hypocritical of me to say otherwise but, WTF are you thinking dude??? I'm not sure if another disqualification is worth it as he obviously ignores them anyway so I can see this ending in a custodial sentence.

This is precisely why I didn't post the video I took of the passenger ride online.

(Going 69MPH in that 70 limit was very reckless of you, its a limit not a target!)

But in seriousness, there are thousands of videos of people speeding excessively on public roads, and its very rare (or it seems very rare) that someone gets arrested for it.

You'd have thought somebody with no license, insurance etc would think twice about even risking nipping to the local shop never mind doing this, he's clearly a weapon grade cretin and I hope they throw the book at him.

Wow. What a prat.
I'm not a fan of anyone who speeds tbh, yes I sometimes fine myself 10mhp over after an overtake... but I reduce again.
My licence is a requirement to do my job. I MUST be able to drive. So can't risk it at all

Lets hope they crush the bike and he gets something like 12 months in prison.

Perhaps he'll have a better think next time!

Some bikers near me got arrested for doing similar stuff, not as bad as this though. They were doing 140+ and wheelies along the bypass and backroads. They also posted videos on youtube.

Slightly off topic, but if a car had pulled out of a junction and he'd gone into the side of it, no doubt killing himself and possibly the driver, the blame falls entirely on the driver.

I understand that the driver should be well aware of what's coming but a bike at that speed would be very hard to anticipate for, 170mph is an insane speed, the bike would be like a missile.

I hope I don't get jumped all over by bikers as I've seen accidents like this in the news before where the bike community are all screaming for the blood of the driver, as they receive a typically lenient sentence for death by dangerous driving and I understand it isn't relevant here, nor am I saying who I think is right or wrong, but why doesn't the law take into consideration ridiculous excessive speed when an accident like that happens?

I have no sympathy for people that do this on crowded roads when it's not even dark out.

Speeding is like cheating on a test, it's fine so long as you don't get caught. So be smart about it and reduce the potential risks as far as humanly possible.

Short of jail time, he'll probably just go out and do it again if he already hasn't got a licence and the rest.

Looks like he was struggling to hit 170! Should try again with something fast when he gets out.

As a biker I agree with you, at that speed any car driver would have a hard time even seeing the bike let alone judging the speed. If a bike does that speed where there is the possibility of cars pulling out then I struggle to have sympathy for them.
I do speed but always try do it where there is minimal risk and if I crashed at that speed I think regardless of the circumstances I hold some of the blame.
