One of these for sale near me! Only 40k on the clock. Always loved the thought of owning one and may just do it but just after advice really, any known issues around this mileage or things to check for?

Just thinking about it

I've owned two WRX impreza's, a 2002 model and a 2007 model. (had both for 3 years each)

The most important thing is at this mileage and age check if the cam belt has been changed recently (if not it will need doing - costs around £600 with new rollers)
Full service history is suggested too, due to the the engines being highly strung if servicing is not done regular it can degrade the engine and holes can blow in the bottom.

If it is a private seller I would go for a test drive, ask the owner to show you what the car can do. This is a great way to see if he boots it before the engine has warmed up. If he does.... walk away, if he waits till the engine is warm it will have been looked after more.

got a link to the sale?

Hi thanks for the reply! Its a local dealer; decent one too tend to deal in nice stock. Its just 04 seems old for the price but may be more peace of mind etc. Its not one i would want to buy private as like you say they could be mistreated. Then again so could this one! Ill link

Would probably p/x my 530d or sell privately depends really

I did email asking about service history as its not clear if its full or not and they came back saying they are awaiting these details, surely they would have all this to hand as the car is with them?

Ill ask about the belt

Jesus, that mileage is incredibly low....

Saying that, my Mk4 mondeo has only just clocked 48k and is '07

edit:

Small world, I work just round the corner from this place. I've heard mixed reviews about this garage...

Depends on what you're after? If a car which requires zero work then.. any knocking noises, and clutch slipping, and issues with the gearbox etc..

Is it an import?

looks in great condition for the age, low mileage too.

Made me smile how all the wheels/tyres are clean apart from the one with mud all over the tyre haha :)

As for the price, I sold my 2007 WRX with 52k miles last October for £6000, however the price of them has sky-rocketed since then. I could sell it for £10,000 now easy. The 2nd hand market pricing is going up atm. That being said the price still seems a little bit too high for the age even with the condition. But they are a "special" type of car, if you want a nice one you have to pay for it now. The nice ones are dying out.

Ill see what they come back with. Asked for a guide price on mine. I imagine i could get 8500 private for mine, but will see

Thanks for the advice, what are they like as a car though? Good fun? I like my bmw just find it a bit dull

Really? Whats causing the price hike then? Just becoming harder to find ones looked after perhaps

This is 100% correct, and combined with the recent price drops in fuel, they are more desirable now.

I wish I kept mine for another 2 months and waited, could have got 100% at least 2k more for mine, maybe even 3-4k more now. It helped that mine was a white hawkeye, made it all that more rare too.

I didn't look at the price. For £8k i'd be wanting a mint classic Type RA/B. Better handling, active centre differential, miles better.

Nice car but price is too high even with low-ish miles.

£8K is still non-wide track STi money.

With the drop in sterling (OK it's a recent thing) and a stronger Yen has made importing cars from Japan probably more expensive than buying here. That has pushed prices up.

The relaxation of laws in the US on imported cars has also pushed JDM car prices up.

This compared to lower fuel costs, lower insurance costs and as said newer ones are a bit pants, all goes towards hiking up the older car costs.

£8K would, for me, be Minty McMintFace classic 4 door STi RA. Bit less for RA and a few grand more for Type R.
