PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

Anyone that believes you will be playing games in 4k with this PS4 Pro is living in a dream world.

Coming from someone that has a PC with a GTX970 and a decent processor. I wouldn't even try 4k gaming. 1080 60fps with a whole bunch of the bells and whistles? Yes!

Not sure this PS4 Pro will even be capable of that.

To be fair I can run GTA V fairly well at 4K with a 970, not maxed but settings are quite high and I average about 40FPS+

But yeh major problems running RoTR etc at 4K.
I do default to 1080p

Surely the Pro's extra processing power is to achieve 4K, if graphical features take a hit to achieve this then we're left with a terd, albeit a 4K terd.

If a 4K TV is not a requirement for the Pro, would that mean the standard / slim is going to be phased out by the Pro as time goes on and prices drop?

The PS4 will likely remain as the budget option, filling a similar gap that the 12GB PS3 and 4GB 360 did.

Pro won't be typically render games at 4K natively, it'll upscale from a lower resolution using a checkerboard rendering approach. So it's faking it, but it's a decent fake :).

Prepare for incoming 'true 4k' Microsoft marketing campaign for Scoripio :o

You need £1000+ worth of GPUs to do native 4k at 60fps right now, I'll be impressed if Microsoft can actually deliver that in affordable console form next year.

Despite their claims of true 4k I'm sure they'll also be 'cheating' to get acceptable performance.

Anyone that's on the fence - listen to that Digital Foundry video I just posted above. It's a real eye opener. It has actually convinced me that this box has something special up its sleeve.

Yep just watched it thanks.

We are going to have to wait for a hands on experience it would seem, hopefully they get demo units out there for us to try in person.

Other wise you are just going to have to take someone's word for it I guess.

I find it kinda ironic and funny how the tables have turned that the PS4 pro doesn't do native 4k gaming. I've read various things online from Sony saying players will never be able to tell with this inter polarisation as it is so close. Wasn't that the same excuse Xbox user used for years with 1080p v 900p? (I agree btw, I can't tell) but I just find it funny how this now apply for the PS4.

This is coming from someone who has both PS4 and XB1 and currently buy most of my games on the PS4.

It seems the cheapest TV with the proper 'Ultra HD Premium' (that's the official stamp you want so you know it has what you want HDR wise I've read) spec (at richer sounds) is £1099 for the 49" and £1299 for the 55".

I'd probably spend the extra for the 55" as I read/heard it really starts to show at 55" and above.

They'll be cheaper next year no doubt but I think I'll put my partying ways behind me hit exercising hard (as a reason not to drink/smoke) and put the money towards one of these and a ps4 pro. Then I'm all set...until scorpio.

Yeah right, I'll last about 3 weeks lol. Gonna try though coz I've not much spare cash these days and can afford one or the other.

Truth is, that power just isn't available in a small console box yet. It's only just getting traction in the PC space. What it does do is fill a huge void in the living room with shiny new TVs. 4K isn't going away so it's better than nothing.

I think £350 is amazing value for what it does.

I just wish Microsoft had been a little bit bolder and did more with the One S.

Agreed. Seems like a well refined piece of machinery after all. Needs to pre-order this at once.

Wont buy, Wont buy.....

Worst mistake sony has ever made in the history, no UHD Bluray Support...... i mean seriously they where all bluray this bluray that pushing there promotions ect ect, what they are doing now is pushing people to online 4k services and imho there not a patch on the proper UHD bluray disks...

XBOX one S will be my next console upgrade.......
really looking forward to the new ps4, i was very late to the party to view my opinion but with having a 4k tv UHD bluray support is a must.

It's okay saying some people don't buy uhd disc but there will be a market for people who do, considering Sony are the ones who pushed and did blu ray it is still an odd omission. A choice to get a disc would have been nice. I still buy the odd blu ray if I really like the film as a disc copy is nice to have

I don't know anyone who buys UHD Blu-ray so I'm not so sure that it is a must. In 3 years time though...

Nail. Head. It isn't popular right now.

PS5 / Ps4 Pro V2 will have it, and another reason to upgrade again :D

I still really don't get this console. wont do 4k and devs are still aiming for 30fps in new games.....so whats the point? seriously 1080/1440 at 60fps or GTFO

just seems like it's their only way to get PSVR to even slightly work. Think it's no mistake all the technical announcements for it and vr are coming so late. got to keep the hype train and preorders going before people figure its a dud.
