PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

This console is just a reaction to 4K and HDR technology in my opinion and a way I push those at the bleeding edge to get a PS4 Pro, that's why they released it and that's why MS made the One S.

IMHO, they've gone too soon, there's too much BS with specs/input lag/lack of standards on these TVs at the moment that it's a minefield buying a TV with everything you want for gaming on.

I find it kinda ironic and funny how the tables have turned that the PS4 pro doesn't do native 4k gaming. I've read various things online from Sony saying players will never be able to tell with this inter polarisation as it is so close. Wasn't that the same excuse Xbox user used for years with 1080p v 900p? (I agree btw, I can't tell) but I just find it funny how this now apply for the PS4.

This is coming from someone who has both PS4 and XB1 and currently buy most of my games on the PS4.

But it can do full 4k native, elder scrolls and last of us both have a native 4k mode. Difference is you can't compare the ps4pro games running at 4k to another console to show how bad:rolleyes: it looks. Using the xb1s would be meaning less as its only using an up scaler much like one already in the TV. Think the pro sounds like it's a great combo of price vs power a compromise sure, but a very good one.

I don't know anyone who buys UHD Blu-ray so I'm not so sure that it is a must. In 3 years time though...

Agreed. The PS3 was released 10years ago. Today the distribution of media is an entirely different landscape (hello Neflix 4K & Amazon Prime for example). It is not expected for Sony to actually release a standalone UHD blu ray player anytime soon so I guess at the moment they are on the fence waiting to see what the next couple of years bring.

Personally I feel it would have been nice to have in the Pro, but not a dealbreaker

I still really don't get this console. wont do 4k and devs are still aiming for 30fps in new games.....so whats the point? seriously 1080/1440 at 60fps or GTFO

just seems like it's their only way to get PSVR to even slightly work. Think it's no mistake all the technical announcements for it and vr are coming so late. got to keep the hype train and preorders going before people figure its a dud.

What you want is called a PC. They're never going to mandate a frame rate to developers unless there is a technical reason do so ie. PSVR.

Yes the only way to get the PSVR to work is with the Pro, the same PSVR they've been demo'ing for the past year on standard PS4 hardware.... :o

Considering it costs £350 I think what they are achieving is amazing and the games look fantastic. Yes it's not a pc but it's not meant to be. I'm all pre ordered up and tbh it cannot come soon enough.

I'm not sold on this yet. Going to wait and see what kind of benefits it will bring when running games at 1080p.

There's no way in hell I'm buying a 4K HDR TV just to continue playing games at 30fps or below with more detail. It's ridiculous. Just LMAO at them saying PS4 has maxed out 1080p.

It feels way too early to be pushing 4K HDR so aggressively. How many people even own a 4K HDR TV right now? I suspect the percentage is extremely low. Are they really expecting people to invest in a 4K HDR TV as well as the PS4 pro? That's a significant amount of money.

Agree - I think this was sony marketing its HDR enabled 4K Tv's more than anything

Everyone knows 4K is a joke what with 8K round the corner - they got to try to sell their tv's somehow lol!

SD > HD - Big visible difference
HD > UHD - meh
UHD > HDR - big fat meh

Only reason peeps bought HD TV's in the first place was to reduce TV size in their living rooms - the average joe don't even care about HD let alone HDR

Sony needed BluRay in the PS4 to win the format war with HD-DVD. There's nothing like that at stake this time around.

Most important thing for Sony with the Pro is 1) Get the price down 2) Get it out before Christmas.

You always get the latest tech - it must be a treasure trove in your gaming room as you get all the latest games, hardware etc...

I myself won't be getting the PS4 Pro this year, the idea is starting to grow on me now. I wasn't overly impressed at first but I do sort see where Sony is going with it.

I do still think Sony might have dropped the ball or took a huge gamble but we will see.

Very boring conference that did very little to sell me on either consoles.

I think the slim is $50 too much, @ $300 the Xbox slim offers better value with the included 4K bluray support.

Not including 4K bluray is a mind boggling omission from the PS4Pro

Aside from that they nailed the price spot on for the pro, and I am warming up to it. It will and should sell as it isn't too much more than what you would have been paying for a normal 1tb standard PS4 not long ago. Anyone in the market for a console right now it's a no brainer, £90 more for more than double the performance.

After watching digital foundries 3 hour hands on video much more excited about it, he basically says it is great but conference was ****.

I'm in the camp who is sticking with 1080p so would want either improved frame rates or improved graphics at 1080p and happy to pay the extra amount for it.

As for the design team someone needs firing as it is as ugly as sin, the new Xbox slim is something I would prefer under my tv.

Once the pro is out, do you think there will still be decent demand for second hand PS4's?

I'd like to be able to get a few quid back towards the cost of the pro.

The value will have dropped to around £125-£150, lower on private sales and higher on eBay. But you have probably missed the boat in getting good money back on them but there will be a demand so shouldn't have any issues selling.

Another point worth mentioning everyone seems to be suggesting Scorpio has won etc, we don't even know what it looks like or when it's coming out.

What we do know is it's going to be a whole year after the pro, will probably cost more and by the time it comes out the pro will have a nice price cut for next Christmas and have a huge lead on it.

I can see the Scorpio costing around £399 but probably closer to £449 whilst the pro being sub £300 by next Christmas.

When the PS4 was released it had less media features than the PS3. There was an uproar for weeks.......then it was all forgotten.

Could be the same again with the UHD missing from the PS4 Pro. After a few weeks people will get over it and buy the console anyway within a year.

Nice to see the third parties stepping up to enhance games. More, please! :D

This is The Witness -

When playing on a PS4 Pro, two modes will be available, depending on the telly you're using.

If you have a 4K TV, The Witness renders at 1440p or possibly higher, while keeping a consistent 60 frames per second. This image is then upscaled to 4K. Text, menus and other user interface features are native 4K.

If you have a telly that is 1080p or lower, the game renders at 1080p instead of the old 900p, with increased antialiasing quality from 2x to 4x MSAA, again while keeping a solid 60 frames per second.

MS need to be back on their game after they messed up with the Xbox One but Scorpio is still on paper, MS can say all the bells and whistles they want but we have no physical hardware and wont for a year at least.

If Nintendo came out next week and said "NX will be more powerful than the PS4 Pro" I bet people would still laugh at Nintendo because they haven't showed any hardware.
