Received new (used) gfx card from OcUk

I had a fury nitro last weekend that had marks and the overall quality wasn't great, but I know that it had not been opened before.

That's how it comes sometimes.

Should have sent it back then, you wouldn't accept scratches on a monitor/car etc why a graphics card.

If you do not feel the card is new and wish to return, then just contact overclockers there service is first class and they will have you sorted.

Have you taken the protective plastic film off?

Looking at your pictures, it looks like it's still on.

Never had a gpu with protective plastic film covering, do they do that ?

They may well do if there are "chrome" decorative parts on the cooler shroud, which there seem to be in this case.

In fact, my Palit Gamerock Premium had a protective plastic film. It caused an intermittent clicking noise when the tab made contact with one of the fans. I thought I had a dodgy fan until I realised what was causing it.

EVGA cards are always covered in film, including little tiny bits over certain decorative features. It can be a pain to get off sometimes.

This. I've had a few EVGA cards and they are plastered in protective film also the boxes are factory sealed and shrink wrapped so you'd definitely know if it was a pre opened card in that instance.

For the record I've bought numerous Graphics cards from OCUK now and all of them were brand new un-opened items

me personally it would have gone back if it genuinely looked used..for all you know someone could have had that card apart for whatever reason and one day if you need to rma it you might get refused for that very reason.

its a tough one because cosmetics don't affect performance, but they do affect 2nd hand resell value.

this might be due to DSR. What do you think happens to all those cards used for up to 14 day and returned under DSR where a full refund is issued?. I doubt these cards go to B grade. Think there was a discussion some time about it. I might be wrong but think DSR returned cards can be resold as new but I think in this case maybe the scratches weren't seen on its return. I might be wrong about DSR as the rules were meant to be changing I think.

I would guess that makes sense, however what would happen if the customer had registered the card day one and then return it under DSR later?

I am sure that would not be able to go back out as new.

I assume most with the try and return thinking won't register the card anyway. I don't usually register hardware for a few days at least to make sure all is okay as if it's faulty it'll be returned to the retailer. The manufacturers probably allow cards to be registered more than once too as the serial no on the card returned is the proof it's the card once it gets returned.

I once bought a new 'used' card from the Vauxhal "Nova" place :). Was a bit miffed but was in perfect condition so was fine with it after the initial disappointment of removing the item from the box and seeing the protective wrapper all crumpled up. I'd rather not receive such items though and would return them if thought paying a lot for the part.

Yeah MSI did it on the 970's on the fan hub. Remember that ! People reported removing the film and it broke the fan it was that sticky it wouldnt come off.

Also had it on reference cooler on another card.

So op has returned card, outcome?? Have you received new card.....

Thread should be closed as overclockers have offered to replace , peronsally I would have spoken to overclockers first instead of posting giving them a chance to rectify as issues can happen from time to time but the true test is how a company corrects these errors, and as I say they have offered you new card so job done...?

A scratch would not impact he 2nd Hand price at all. Not once in the MM have I seen anyone ask "does it have a small scratch on the card" the only things which impact the price are if it is boxed , how it clocks and if it has warranty.

I think the op wasnt sure if its normal or not so just wanted to check before he made an issue out of it.

On an actually well known auction site (on which I have sold hundreds of items) I can assure you that a scratch would 100% negatively impact the sell price of an item. Honestly, saying anything otherwise makes no sense, how could obvious physical damage to the card (albeit cosmetic) not result in a decrease in value?
