eSports - Not gaining comparitive traction / Too corporate?

but obviously it has to become more commercial for more to watch.:p
Yes, thats why it gets less entertaining sometimes. I think is personal preference, in csgo you dont tend to see the raging players that much as they are in closed booths :D or you just dont put camera on them if they are CIS cough cough NAVI cough cough

Its also dependent on a lot of factors, if I want to chill and want to watch some twitch for me the most entertaining game is starcraft even tho its got the smallest EU scene I guess but I just like it, if I want to rage about teams I like in csgo, I tune in to csgo match, but In all honesty I just have this on another monitor and play myself.

It's not a sport for one it's a game same as Scrabble.

It's more worrying that people think this is normal behaviour. Should be a two strikes and your out rule.

I agree there should be sanctions for "unsporty" behaviour even tho its not considered sport by some....

Quake 3 used to be a good watch , especially the 1v1 tourney's. Rememver specing a lot of those back in the day the likes of Sujoy, UNR blokey etc and some dude called Q50 from a clan called 4K who must have had a laser eye because he had some mad rail skills. Remember seeing him in i4 in Swindon

Sport and game are not mutually exclusive.

I agree, but despite having been gaming since 1980 I find myself objecting to eSport having the word "sport" in the title.

A friend of mine is mildly obsessed with watching Starcraft comps and the only sense of wonder I have is how these guys get paid for this. I also agree with the earlier comment about the community surrounding the gaming in general; it's a nasty, toxic environment most of the time and you don't see this in any other sport.
And, unlike athletes or even world class chess players, I struggle to respect these guys for being good at what they do. In Starcraft in particular all that appears to be going on is repeatedly hitting certain key combinations until one side wins.

I guess I'm old.

Probably because it's about as exciting as watching paint dry. :p

It's that sort of boredom you experience when you die early in a round of CS:GO and have to wait ages until the next one, except in this case you don't play at all.

Like any sport - if you're not interested in the game - no matter how much its pushed; advertise - etc won't get you to watch. This is like any sport.

The way they are breaking in best way they can - each year they are getting bigger and bigger. Could they be handled better? Possibly - but also try to grow it too fast like late 90s and early 2000s and it will crash again like it did then. *yes the economy also crashed; but crash if esports pushed way too fast. You need people to want to not just watch online but come to events themselves.

It's just ultimately quite boring as the only games that get played are what I would class as "elitist" or horrendously "nerdy" - CS, Dota 2 etc.
For me, the more casual gamer who plays stuff like Battlefield etc I would much rather see that being played.

A while ago I went to see a League of Legends LCS at Wembley, was like 12 quid a ticket. The atmosphere was good really, similar to a football match.

Think the main thing is variance of games played so each is niche with players of that game being interested as a spectator and less crossover than sports where you probably played them all at school, already aware of the rules and so on.

I'd much rather watch a simple game where it's clear and obvious who's winning. Would love to watch some properly organised 32v32 Battlefield matches...although I suspect the game's balance would fall to bits with it being playing 'seriously'.

Language evolves over time so I don't have an issue with "eSports" as a name. It's almost certainly a better choice from a marketing point of view too.

Personally I have never found watching it very interesting though I could say the same for regular sport, even "sport" I spend a great deal of time and energy on.
