Hi

Getting the wife a new phone but changing networks.

currently on O2, going to order a S7 Edge through mobilephonesdirect.co.uk.

Am i right in thinking we get the PAC code from O2, when the new phone arrives, set it up and contact Three and give them the PAC code and they will change the number to her old number?

Also how is this deal? S7 edge, Rose gold - 4gb data, unlimited text/calls - free phone - £33 per month.

Thanks,

Usually that is how the pac code works. however with one of my phones they asked the pac when ordering and it was set up when it arrived(I cannot remember if it was the mobilephonesdirect phone or the other with mobiles uk)

Deal looks good after checking uswitch.

I think pac codes expire after a certain amount of days, like about a month or something, but I'd call your new provider if you already have a PAC, just to make sure.

Ask current provider for a PAC (not a PAC code - that is what the C stands for!)
This code is valid for 30 days, as soon as you give the PAC to your new provider that signals your old provider that your contract is ceasing.

You aren't getting a free phone - I'm assuming either 18 or 24 months, so you're either paying £594 or £792. Giving you unlimited minutes, unlimited text and 4GB doesn't cost the network that much.
The only important question is if it's a good deal to you. If that is the phone you want and you find £33/month an acceptable amount to pay for it then yes, it is a good deal.

yea, i know the phone isn't free, i meant no up front payment.

I wasn't sure if you had to give your PAC when you signed up or if you could do it after you have set everything up

It depends on the network. Some asks for it when you're ordering the phone and SIM, some asks for it after activating the SIM.

If I remember for 3 they ask for it after activating their SIM and it takes about a couple of days for the transfer to begin, which itself is a couple of hours.

Get the PAC from O2, wait until your new phone/SIM turn up turn the phone on with the 3 SIM in to register it then fill in the number porting page on their website and it'll be done the next working day.
