PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

Of course it's a downgrade, but for average salary workers with other commitments, I don't think it's a £1000 worth of downgrade.

I'm not saying that because I can't afford a PC either. I could quite easily add a couple of hundred to what I'm spending on the PS4 pro and get a card capable of 4K, but I just don't think it's worth it. The 4K video from Sony showing off games like Spider-Man and Watchdogs 2 looks fantastic. I really don't need much better and I'm quite frankly very pleased at what they have managed to do for £350.

I can't get my head around all the hate.

Mainly because it's being lapped up as some high end pc matching behemoth at super value when in reality it's got something like a downclocked 480 and is not a proper 4k machine.

Yes it seems good value but chuck in the extra price of games and psn and the gap closes.

Somebody on this forum thinks their pc with a 1070 is inferior to this thing...

I don't think it was inferior just not worth the extra cost and not used to its fullest potential.

I like consoles and pc I just think U/C 4 looks fantastic and has fantastic attention to detail. I'm sure it would look just as good on PC if it was released but that's not going to happen.

UC4 looks alright but nothing over Tomb Raider on PC

I agree for PC you have to spend big, as true 4k is still just only achieveable by even the top graphics cards.

Does the LG 55uh950v do 'proper' hdr?

Seems to support multiple - hdr10 and dolby.

It looks like a stonking set but I doubt it will be able to do proper HDR as its an edge lit LCD set. It will be able to take a HDR signal and show it to the best of its capabilities as HDR but you may not see a big difference, especially once the image is in motion and with dark scenes with bright spots i.e. a constellation of stars.

What you need is a higher end (read: expensive) zone lit LCD panel or an OLED.

This is part of the problem with the marketing of HDR, its a massive step up (i think its better than the jump to 4k) but you may not 'see' HDR working its magic without a specific type of display.

Also, you might want to check you panels LG support of HDR using gaming modes, I know LG owners for the OLED panels are waiting for a firmware update to enable HDR with gaming mode.

Add to that that of the panels that do HDR well, most have horrible input lag with it enabled. As good as HDR can look, excessive input lag is a far bigger deal breaker when it comes to gaming. tbh now is absolutely not the time to buy a new 4k/HDR tv. I know there's always something better round the corner but there are times that's it's clearly better to wait and right now is one of them. Hold on if you can.

"I dunno, I'm begging to feel my PC is inferior to be honest, which I never thought I'd say due to a console."

Your words, sorry if I've misinterpreted them.

I just remembered - weren't these consoles supposed to be in white? According to the Foxconn person that leaked the designs. Maybe the white ones will be a 2TB special edition coming later.

I keep looking at 10 bit HDR panels, but I really need to reign myself in until a 49" 4K OLED comes down to the £1000-1200 mark. God knows how long that will take though.

I've made my peace with the fact that there's some major spending happening in January. Might as well go OLED and be done with it.
