Nvidia announced yesterday that its co-founder and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang will be headlining next years CES in January. The Consumer Electronics Show is one of the biggest in the world and this will be the very first time that Nvidia will give the keynote address at the show.

Nvidia Takes Center Stage At CES 2017

The company is teasing major announcements regarding new gaming & virtual reality products as well as developments in AI & self-driving cars. Huang never takes the stage without revealing a brand new chip from the company. So expect anything from brand new gaming GeForce graphics cards to new tesla accelerators and mini supercomputers.

Could possibly be a volta announcement - i wouldn't expect a release until later in the year, They will give the 1000 series at least around a years of shelf life im sure.

I expect Volta, considering the big versions will be used in the new US based super computers. The transition from the 600 series to 700 series was less than a year from what I remember, my 660 was released in Oct 2012 and the 760 in June 2013

Who cares if it was rushed or not. It fulfills a market segment which is un-contested, performs well enough, sells well enough and will tide us over until the next launch.

Or would you have preferred another year of nothing?

If it's Volta news already it would prove Pascal was a rush job IMO.

Would be sweet if it's coming mid next year. Should be a nice jump from my 980Ti.

Yer, NVidia panicked when they heard about AMD working on the 480 and rushed out the 1080/70/Titan X :o

I wouldn't be surprised to see news of a VR headset myself and if it has a 4K res, colour me interested.

Might be pascal refresh same cards just unlocked so they hit higher clocks :D

I do wonder what the full technical reason for the clock-ceiling is.

Seems odd all cards seem to top out at 2114 MHz, and a very healthy amount can hit that. Not much silicon lottery going on.

I wouldn't be surprised to see news of a VR headset myself and if it has a 4K res, colour me interested.

I'll also be interested. Just as long as they don't try any tricks, like 60 FPS with frame interpolation up to 120 Hz, like the PSVR. 90+ FPS is a must for reduced motion sickness.

And low-persistence, high FOV, all that good stuff.
