What have you done to your car today?

ey Acme, hey hey Acme!

Haha my Octavia doesn't have the light. Yours must have a better trim level. :)

Also, got a video of the noise. The screech happens when you press the AC button even with the engine off. Does anything AC related besides the fan on the condenser turn on without the engine being on? Obviously the compressor is belt driven.

Then you can hear the clicks after turning the car on, sometimes its worse than this. Think that may be the compressor pulley bearings and/or compressor clutch.

The rattle you hear after the clicking stops (aside from the normal engine rattle) is the tensioner. :)

After sitting all night in the 'cold':

And again after sitting for 8 hours in the warm multi-storey, slightly different/shorter squeal this time, and minimal/no clicking after starting:

Just because I'd never done it before, I changed all my interior lights to LED's, and the number plate lights.

A bit of cursing and swearing, but got there eventually (although I couldn't quite get the glovebox bulb to fit correctly, but the drivers side footwell LED worked fine. But that one was a pig to get out, so I have that one bulb left to change).

Also fitted some Team Heko wind deflectors. They are a game changer. Now I can wash my windscreen with my window open without showering my electric windows. First set I had was on the Alhambra. 18 years of driving and I only just found them. They are going on every car I own from here on out.

Sorry Will Gill. :p

What I meant to say was that some people like wind deflectors and they are fairly inoffensive to look at even if they're not your thing.

Wind deflectors are hideous, but that wasn't what I took exception to ;)

I know it wasn't. :p

Also, you're hideous! :D

(please don't ban me again)

They're useful, firstly because you can leave the window open a few CM on a hot day and it will look like the window is closed, and secondly because they deflect a bit of rain if you want to drive with the window down slightly when its raining. I used to like them because they stopped my hair blowing in my face as much too, but I've had a haircut since then...

Some of them like the Team Heko ones Hypernuts has on his Leon are quite subtle, I didn't even notice they were fitted when he showed me a picture.

Though depending on your speed if you have the window down and wash the windscreen, it can mean that the rain runs to the edge of the plastic and then flies into your face. At least in my car. :(

Booked it in for Monday to have all the bushes replaced and all suspension components checked as well as subframe.

Let's see what the NC500 did to the old girl.

Why do this when the car will sort the cabin temperature out quickly?

Again why? Do you eat a lot of curries or something?

Solved this one.

If the above is really the best justification then i dislike them even more, they a superfluous functionally and look rubbish cosmetically.

It actually makes quite a bit of difference when leaving the car in the sun for ages! If its sealed up like a bean tin theres a heatwave that hits you in the face when you open the door and its uncomfortable to sit in until the temp has levelled out.

I like being able to hear the outside world when I'm driving. I'll always have the window down a bit if I'm not on a busy main road, unless its too hot to not use the AC properly.

The looks are subjective and depend what car they are on. They look pretty stupid on my Octavia but they were on it when I bought it. Whereas I think they looked good on my Corolla. :p

Surely you just hold down the open door remote button for a few seconds and then the windows open and let the heat out before you get anywhere near the car? (or at least my Audi did and I assume most other VW group cars do - my naff ford doesn't sadly)

You then get it, turn AC on and shut windows :)

My car certainly doesn't sort the cabin temperature out quickly and leaving the windows (and sunroof) ajar on a sunny day makes a considerable difference to the temperature when I get in.

For me this "levelling out" takes no time at all. Yeah it's a bit hot in a sealed up black car in the summer sunshine, but by the time I've opened the door, sat down, got the engine started, and cold air is blowing in my face a few seconds later, I'm over it.

Wind deflectors are pointless on modern cars and look crap IMHO.

My car takes ages to level the temp out on a hot day, before now I've actually resorted to opening all of the doors and standing by it for about a minute before getting in. It doesn't have climate either, just regular AC, so it takes a while to cool the whole cabin down. It also takes a while for the air to go ice cold on a very hot day. :p

On my Polo I didn't have AC at all, so it was even worse.

Arguably they weren't required on my Corolla as that had proper auto climate and cooled down pretty much straight away, but I think they suited that one. :)

They do look chav and often matched with bonnet bras. I put windows down on way to car and leave them down when driving off for a minute until the CC is cool. It will be working harder than needed if you leave a window open.
