Legal in uk to paint van camouflage?

Better to have and not need, than need and not have, especially if independence and self-reliance is a factor.

Look around, see what's for sale.
There are a few Mazda Bongo 4wd campervans on the 'Bay, for example.

Thanks! well, yeah I think this however my van choices have boiled down to:

Ford Transit LWB Hitop
Merc Sprinter LWB Hitop

Seen many for sale around 3.5-4.5k in good nick, ex service vehicles, prisons transports etc.......... I plan to make my own camper to customise and its a fun project for me & my dad which were looking forward to.

Also I want a sleeper camper - i.e. not obviously a camper, just a van looking type that no one would look twice at.

My main concerns with 4WD are:

1) Fuel !!!! How much more do they really use ?!

2) Much higher mechanical complexity so more to go wrong

3) Is AWD a good compromise or not ?

Hmmm after reading around think I am going to go 2 WD - the fuel costs for AWD/4WD and additional hundreds of kilos of curb weight don't seem to be worth it - snow chains I will take with me and just drive carefully - I am a fairly experienced driver & not an idiot and will stick to 'western' Europe areas so don't think I really need a 4WD system.

You're unlikely to need a 4x4 in non "Western Europe" either, unless you're really going odd places. :p even if the Tarmac runs out the dirt roads (if there actually are many) will be perfectly serviceable for 2wd, especially something with a reasonable clearance - like a van. You can drive round places like Romania in an Aygo for example without an issues. Unless you're going up to Arctic Norway in winter, or doing some form of "into the wild trip" you should be fine... :p

Yeah what I'm thinking! Lol doubt I'll hit Norway in th e winter but might do, even then, I could just get snow tyres, the locals cope with normal cars lol

Stealth camper, and fit a 100w (at least) solar panel on the roof.

Yeah for sure, thinking 400 watts solar as the laptop I'm going to take is a 330 watt power brick! Lol, defo going to be hefty on the electoral side, prob two large leasure batteries, and I'll prob power laptop with a 12v to 19v adapter if there is one for that load, worst case however I'd just have to use an inverter
