GTX 1080 Seahawk only getting 30-40fps???

There must be some intensive setting turned on in WoW, maybe check which AA you're using, and also in another menu (advanced maybe?) there is one called Render Scale or something, this should be set to 100%.

Yeah render scale is set to 100% (it always was) I've tried with AA switched off etc.

There's something else at play here i'm going to chat with Blizzard tech support tonight and see if they can help me get to the bottom of this.

Haha, sorry I stopped playing about 3 and a half years ago now. As much as it could still be fun, you'll know yourself how ridiculously time consuming it is. If you want to get anywhere in that game you pretty much need to sell your soul.

No worries mate, I've only just returned after a 2.5 year hiatus as well, I totally get it :)

Agreed with this and consistent with my experience. I don't know what the guys is smoking who says he gets 60fps+ at 4K on a 980  Go to northern edge of Suramar City and look south over the city, that area will bring any set up below 40fps with graphics sliders at 10 + AA!

It was before the Legion launch doing fishing around Pandaria with no crowds and with the same draw distance at 10 everything but MSAA is maxed and i do not see below 60 i simply get 60 solid 99% of the time. Not only that but my ram is 2400mhz 1T with tight timings this adds fps i notice when the XMP fails also my 4770K is at 4.3-4.4 on both core and uncore which again makes wow love my IPC gains.

The 980, Which btw is on the MM was used at 1510mhz which is pretty close to a 980Ti and i clearly said i did not use any MSAA at 4K. So there you go does this explain how it is possible? My system is no junk box i am OCD about what i put in and i believe you get out what you put into something. A PC with GF experience is not going to perform as good period.

Yeah that explains it if you're in the middle of nowhere in Pandaria :) Thought we were talking about Legion.

Pandaria is really detailed the grass is insane but not been to Suramar but i will remember this post to check. I Also forgot to say minimal UI + no outline mode + render scale 100% and the option for distance sound filtering off. Maybe these add in too but its the players in Legion i bet not the actual zones.

When players come like in the Legion launch events my fps will take a nosedive to 45 easily hence why i turn off the Outline i have heard it can cause quite the fps drop OP might want to check that out too.

Hey guys

thanks for all the replies, really helping me out here (also learning loads!) I've got the card plugged into the second PCI-E slot (if you were counting down from the CPU) I'm at the office so I cant share benchmark details but off the top of my head I ran heaven and valley last night after doing a fresh windows installation, not installing geforce experience (only drivers installed) and disabling that windows 10 xbox app nonsense.

Heaven - Avg FPS - 50ish on ultra settings 4xMSAA
Valley was about the same.

Still got terribad fps in WoW at medium settings.

Could it really be as simple as wrong PCIE slot?

You could be running it in the PCIE 2.0 x4 pseudo x16 slot, the very top is usually PCIE x16 and they run alternate down the mobo to incorporate dual thickness cards in multi-card setups, Run GPU-z it will tell you what that slot is running at. Sometimes it can be running lower as stated in 2D mode due to power saving features but there's a test option next to the display field that will trigger full bandwidth. That could be it, you can also confirm with the manual if you prefer.

Problem finally solved!

It was in the wrong PCI-E slot, switched it to the top slot yesterday and was getting average fps of 61.6 on ultra settings 4xMSAA in heaven benchmark.

Also WoW on max settings is over 100fps.

Tried my hand at overclocking the GPU yesterday as well (first time) and everything is stable at 2126mHz boost clock, temps are stable at 60deg under load.

That sounds alright doesn't it?

Thanks for everyones help!

I would never admit to that to be honest, Not after stating you went to MSI and multiple forums. Anyways enjoy 100fps wow that should be immense on the right monitor.

:D
