BMW 3 GT

Yes the layout is the same, but the higher end 3 series and all 4 series get brushed metal or actual wood rather than hard plastic. This really does make a difference to the quality feel.

The picture shown is a higher end model - it's a 435i! Unless you order an M4 the centre console itself where the shifter is etc, shown in black on the photo, is black plastic irrespective of spec or trim level.

For some reason only that small area where the iDrive controller is gets the trim, I've no idea why they did that? If they've have trimmed the whole area, perhaps in vinyl or something to give a leather effect, it'd have been much nicer.

This is not true, I have a 4GC sport (I'm not a fan of M Sport trim on the rear bumper and sides of the 4 series). All trim levels on SE get brushed aluminum or actual wood on the dash, door handles and around the shifter area.

No they don't and your picture even shows it!

Look at the bottom photo, the only wood trim is that small bit with the iDrive controller on it :p

This might sound like a trivial thing but the problem with the 3/4 Series interior is that it's full of trivial little things that detract from the premium feel of the car. Missing bits of trim around the shifter and hard scratch plastic instead, non-leather trimmed door handles, comedy 1990's handbrake arrangement instead of proper electronic one with Auto Hold on the gearbox and of course, the definitive no carpeted door bins ;)

It all just adds up to make it feel cheaper in there than it really ought to :(

It's a shame modern BMWs are so ugly on the outside, what happened? The e46 era looked great, then...wtf :/

This car looks completely dis-proportioned at the rear.

Apologies, I thought you meant it only gets the trim around the iDrive controller and not around the dash and door handles. Of course as I said this is all subjective because I personally can't abide the wood look in car interiors. So the fact there is less of it is a good thing. :)

I like the 5 Series and I do agree it is a step up over the top of the range 3 and 4 as far as the interior quality goes. I just don't agree it is a significant one. Let me put it this way, the difference between a higher spec 3 or 4 and a 5 is less than if you take a jump from top of the range VW Golf to a higher spec 3 or 4 series.

I think that makes sense.

I think the 3GT looks out of proportion (see a 5 GT for truly ugly IMHO). I was looking at a 3GT and the rear headroom, bootspace and proper 5 seat layout was great. I just couldn't get over the mildly odd proportions and went for a 4 series GC instead.

335d GT m sport doesn't look as bad. Adaptive suspension also slightly lowers it, i think, which helps on the looks.

I don't think the 3 GT is horrible, just slightly out of proportion at the rear. The 4GC fixes this and look far better.

I may get lynched for this but I find the M Sport trim on most modern BMWs only looks better from the front. The excessive ridges on the sides (especially on the 4 series) and that big black diffuser at the bottom rear bumper removes a lot of the elegance and grace the modern BMW 3 and 4 series have. IMHO of course. :D

Nope.

Exactly the same.

Actually exactly the same as a 320d xDrive - the regular 320d actually looks better because it has M Sport suspension which the 335d does not ;)

He didn't mention xDrive.

Though on the subject, xDrive suspensions are usually ~30mm higher than M Sport suspension and can make a car look somewhat higher and less sporty. I knew I wanted xDrive but when I saw the 3GT with xDrive it looked even more ungainly and raised than normal and I was put off. The 4GC can handle the slightly raised stance much better because it is already quite a low car as it's based on the 2 door coupe.

The 335d is only available as an xDrive.

Therefore a regular 320d M Sport looks a bit better infact, as it's slightly lower :p

Ah, I'm with you now. Didn't know that 335d were xDrive only
