If he lasts 18 months I will be amazed. The pressure is choking him already into the rambling crap from Chelsea press conferences. The confidence just seems to be gone from him. Maybe his heart isn't actually in it any more.

After starting the League Cup game it's being reported tonight that Karius is going to start in goal again tomorrow. Not that I disagree with the decision but I'm surprised it's been taken.

Had Karius not got injured in pre-season I'm certain that he'd have started the season in goal - Klopp would have had the perfect excuse to pick him as he'd had a full pre-season where as Mignolet returned late. The injury gave Mignolet a life line and to his credit, he's not done anything wrong so to drop him now is a big call.

For keepers I don't think what happens in training plays a big part. Ultimately a keeper can be perfect in training all week and 89 minutes during the game but if they make 1 mistake that's all that counts.

Klopp spoke about the situation during his press-conference, saying there is no number 1 right now and brought up a number of possible scenarios - one being that he might play Karius until the next international break and then both keepers have had a run each, and he'd make his decision from there. The reality is that he signed Karius to be number 1 and he's brought him in as soon as he could. The way it's played out has made it a bigger call than it might have been and it's put more pressure on Karius to perform.

I think Mignolet must have known that Karius was signed to be number 1, Klopp made a beeline for Karius and didnt really look or approach anyone else. Was pretty clear that he absolutely wanted Karius. From what I saw in preseason of Karius , I'd say it was a good call but of course the premier league is a different kettle of fish compared to preseason. However if Karius keeps a clean sheet today and performs well then I think that will make it all the tougher for Mignolet to get back in between the sticks. Should it end up that Karius does become our number 1 (and why the hell not as he was pretty damned impressive in the Bundesliga and is young) then I wonder how like Mignolet would be happy being a "number 2"

Rooney on the bench :) Bit of a strange midfield with Pogba, Herrera and Mata though.

Welcome to the bench, Rooney.

I like the look of that team. Was disappointed with Lingard in the derby so hoping he'll be better today.

strange but good selection - a little risky not having a classic dm in there as well as two naturally more attacking cm's - especially against a counter -attacking team - but looks good

Sligthly concerned that Mata might kill off any pace that Rashford / Lingard etc might generate but glad Rooney has been dropped so I guess this is a reasonable compromise

edit - really liked Neville's food analogy, totally correct even if it was hilarious.

Hoping we can have a good show against Chelsea today - without the added circus that was Jose added to the fixture hopefully we get a decent game.
