Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [23rd - 28th September 2016]

Walcott paying on the right wing as he is this season is his best position. He's very dangerous from this position. He is playing in a Sterling role for Arsenal.

He'll get you goals but from a right wing position. He main focus is giving us a threat to get round the out side of defences and get assists in to the box for people to finish.

The thing I liked about Walcott today was he was also tackling back.

Iwobi looked good.

What I like at the moment about Arsenal is, we seem to have a system and partnerships forming all over the pitch.

Mustafi/Koscielny
Bellerin/Walcott
Xhaka/Coquelin/Carzorla

Ozil/Sanchez seemed to be combining today.

Even Monreal is decent.

Sanchez looked hungry today and was doing a lot of running.

We have Cech in goal who is one of the best in the Prem.

Unfortunately however I think what differentiates us from City would be we don't have an Aguero.

---

But then we go back to the PSG game. Yes we managed a draw, but they found it too easy to create chances. If it wasn't for Cavani forgetting his shooting boots and Ospina playing a blinder we could have conceded 4-5 goals.
How can we look good against Chelsea and then same old same old against PSG.

It was clear that Chelsea are not at the races at the moment. Conte doesn't know his best team or formation. Us on the other hand do and are working on improving so it was a good time to play them.

---

Why is Perez not getting any game time? Also why is Wenger going with Le Coq over Xhaka? Le Coq played well but is he better?

again, after this weekend, I cant see any team coming close to City.....its already their's to lose.

They've been mighty impressive no doubt and they're likely to get better the more time Guardiola gets to work with them but they're not unbeatable. MOTD highlighted how Swansea caused them problems and had they had more clinical front players things may have finished differently today.

It's also worth noting that they've only really had 1 big test so far this season, vs Utd, who were poor on the day and they only just took the points. Another day the Bravo/Rooney pen goes the other way and who knows how that match ends.

its their squad strength, nobody else comes remotely close to it in the EPL.

their only flaw is no genuine quality replacement for Aguero, everywhere else they pretty much have two high quality players for each position, something no other team has in the league.....and its showing.

They do look strong but people were making similar noises a few games into last season too and they ended up only scraping 4th by goal difference.

Errm, Iheanacho's strike rate, movement, finishing are all insane. He's 19, has only taken 14 shots in the league in his career and has 10 goals, also several assists. He's had no consistent game time and yet is always effective when he comes on. Yes some of those are end of games in decent wins where the other team has already crumbled so it's relatively easy but as with when Aguero was out with a ban, he seamlessly integrated into the team. His movement and ability to gel with the rest of the offensive line was there from the second Aguero was out.

Iheanacho looks like he could be a very very big player, his biggest issue is getting games at the moment. But for City, Aguero plays he scores, Aguero doesn't play and Iheanacho scores.

In reality it's KDB they don't have a good enough replacement for, I mean KDB went off and what Navas came on, monumentally bigger quality drop off than when Aguero goes off or can't play.

Perez played during the week. Sanchez is doing the role asked of him very well, as is the likes of Iwobi, Walcott, Ozil etc - So who would you play Perez instead of? And he's probably just trying to give Xhaka time to adapt to Arsenal, it's not like past seasons where the injury list is huge and everyone needs to be thrown in at the deep end.

I can understand wanting Xhaka to play as I think he is the better player, but Perez is being kept out by Sanchez, which I have no problem at all with.

A slight difference in quality of manager this time though.

It will be interesting to see how it goes when they have a blip, and there will be one at some point.

dont agree with that at all - they may have a very good 1st XI attack but after that its pretty average (albeit with Jesus to come in Jan, who may or may not take time to adjust).

Silva isnt even as good as 2-3 seasons ago, still a good player but not the unplayable creative type he was then.

Their defence without Kompany is pretty average, and Kompany is constantly struggling for fitness.

De Bruyne is out for 4 weeks after getting injured yesterday. He's been one of if not the best player in squad.

I wonder how much an effect the new stadium is having on their performances. I never went to Upton Park but I got the feeling that it was a tight, cramped and intimidating place for visiting sides to travel to. Now they're playing in an athletics stadium, where the fans are a mile from the pitch and there's little to no atmosphere.

Yeah never went to Upton Park either but you got the impression it was a proper old skool football ground now they're playing at what could be Wembley or any big neutral ground.

Think the unrest with the fans isn't helping the atmosphere either. The hardcore fans falling out with the newcomers who don't like them standing up in front of them etc.

Having been to the stadium a few times (For non football events) I can understand the fans issues with the lack of pubs near the ground etc as well, your hardcore Hammers fan who has been for a pie and pint before a game for his whole life has to now go and sit outside Westfield with a cocktail or something now :D
