What card for hassle free gaming @1080p with Steam Link?

Think it will be vram holding you back. 2gb really doesn't cut the mustard, even at 1080p.

I haven't used Steam Link although my brother has one and has a 970 and seems to cope pretty well from what I can gather. Again from what I gather it is good for certain style of games. Certainly think there is a bit of input lag as you would expect, so doubt it would be any fun playing a fast paced online shooter for example. But for games like Tomb Raider, GTA etc I have heard it is very good.

The 960 2gb is definitely not gonna cut it for too intensive games but remember network connection is paramount as well, so make sure all is okay on that front first.

What's your budget? And yeah, after setup it's quite hassle free, though like PC gaming in general an odd thing can pop here and there to troubleshoot.

For 1080p I'd say start looking from 480 & 1060 and onwards, though those are quite adequate as well.

I think you can press maybe Start+Y (?) to bring up some streaming stats which may help identify any bottlenecks with encoding/decoding/network etc.

My GTX 670 2GB was fine over Steam Link. It played The Witcher 3 as well as it plays on my actual PC. Some games just don't seem to like Steam Link at all though. Alien Isolation ran at around 100fps on my PC but over Steam Link I couldn't hit 30 fps consistently.

I don't know how it compares, but I use Steam in home streaming to get from my gaming PC in the living room (i5, 16GB RAM, GTX 970) to my iMac (i5, 8GB RAM, 750 GT) and it's smooth as. That's with homeplugs.

I got a steam link box and my lad is using my old 280X and it works great. No issues as of yet. He runs at 1080p and so does our telly downstairs. I am using homeplugs (500mb/s) also.

All good.

I use homeplugs 200mbps and it's smooth.

290x / 390 / 390x / 980 (bit pricey)

All perfect 1080p cards. (I think)

290x here, runs excellent.
