G63 AMG!

A youngish chap who lives a street away recently upgraded his C63 to a G63 - it looks pretty cool in that it's quite different from the norm and the the engine is just comical in such a tractory looking thing.

However, just now, intrigue lead to me to auto trader and I had a quick look and to say I'm shocked is a understatement. His is a 2015 plate and those are going for 105 - 115k! :eek:

Why are they so expensive? How are the residuals so good? I had a look at the interior and it looks like an E Class - it doesn't even have an amazing S Class type uber lux interior.

What am I missing? Yeah amazing engine but it's no different to that in its other AMG models.

G wagons have always been really expensive. Never known why to be honest.

Part of the reason they hold their value so well is that the old ones can easily be visually facelifted to look almost identical to the new ones, like so:

And the new ones I suppose are expensive for the same reasons a new Defender or Land Cruiser are.

My brother has had his G55 in grey for quite a while, about 10 years I think. . Monstereous sound from the side exit pipes.

What is there to get?

I can see why they are valued so highly and I know there's more to it than the 30 year old looking shell but it doesn't mean I agree with it.

Indeed - My Ex Boss had a silver G55 AMG (with that exact personalised reg plate) a few years back - truly epic noise, and somewhat odd seeing something so large/heavy move so fast - like it was bending space/time!

Ended up selling it to Wayne Rooney as apparently was a waiting list for the AMG model at the time.

G63 is the "cheap" one too. My local exotic dealer has 5 G65s with the v12 in them. A cool $230k each!

I saw one a few weeks ago and thought I would not mind buying one for a laugh over the winter so I had a look online and almost fell off my chair. As you say cool looking car but 100k plus??? No thanks.

Read a road test of the V12.

They said the V8 was better and only 0.1 second in the 0-60 time.

I think they look horrendous. But horrendous appeals to some.

I hear them around London sometimes, turn around expecting a C/S/E63, only to have my eyes spooned out by a G Wagon.

Having driven both, I'd probably agree too. The V12 doesn't add that much more for the money.

This is Miami though, only the peasants drive the V8 model

I love those. I have a ML55 AMG. Facelift version. 350bhp Lovely truck, been de-catted and the exhaust roar is addictive. IT's quick, comfortable. etc. Before I brought It I read the reviews about dodgy build issues but took a gamble. My facelift is solid, no squeaks and runs perfectly and only done 85K miles. Was £70k new. I paid 4K. Amazing.

Would love a GL63, Ml63, anything AMG 63. Love the sound and 500+ bhp.
