Looking for a new TV

So after moving house and realizing that our current LG 32" LCD just looks out of place in a large area, the wife has told me to go look for a decent TV around the 46"+ size, budget is around £2300. Not really sure what to go for OLED, LED, UHD?

I have a Netflix account and we'll mainly be watching movies and wildlife documentaries as well as the odd Blu Ray disc and streaming from my network HDD via DLNA. Not really into sport so not bothered about football or anything like that and wont be playing any games on it.

Features I am after -

Netflix
DLNA (via Ethernet, wont be using WiFi)
BBC iPlayer (would be nice)
4OD (would be nice)
Amazon Prime (would be nice)

Also would it be worth waiting until the festive season or after to see what deals are available with sound bars, blu ray player bundles?

Any and all advice is very much appreciated :)

The best time to buy a tv is late january to march.

Manufacturers release new models every year around spring. Retailers then slash prices on previous year models to make way for the new ones about to be released a month or two before they are actually releasing the new ones.

Forget trying to get a package deal. Buy tv and whatever else you need separately.

The problem with going for EOL tv's is that no guarantee of stock, which models will be available or where and for how much. You usually get tv's for around half price if you keep on checking regularly. With your budget though it doesn't sound like your short of a few bob. Get yourself a 4K OLED from LG and a Yamaha soundbar with the money you have left over and go for the top model you can afford.

This. but don't buy one that has been on display, it will have been on for 8-10 hours every day since it was set up, that could be for up to a year or more. Not good for lifespan methinks.

As always, go & see a telly in action for yourself before purchase. The Indian food place is not recommended for this as they have the standard Hollywood trailers & sales propaganda :p on a loop, as ordered by their HO.

JL, Richers, or a local independent is best for demos.

Wife likes the 55B6V.

Looks like we're visiting JL this weekend for a look at the kit. I would like to buy it now just because I want it :D but then considering what Sonny has said, it would be good to save some cash if I wait, however the gamble is if the kit is still available in Jan.

Just thought i'd chime in also if you are looking to purchase the LG OLED55B6V it might be worth taking a look at the LG OLED55C6V, http://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-OLED55C6V

For the same price it's basically the same T.V yet it's curved and has 3D if that's something you wouldn't mind.

Not sure if John Lewis have it in but i know Currys do.

Looks quite nice but I've never really fallen in with the 3D gimmick. Also the whole curved thing......I don't know.

If it was 3D and not curved I might be more swayed towards getting it but then it would be a wasted function as I wont be getting a 3D Blu-ray player anytime soon.

there is no guarantee stock of that will be available in january to march. also stock may be so thin that whatever does go on sale gets snapped up very quickly. you will also need to spend time every day looking for clearance stock here and there. you can sometimes get tip offs on specialist forums (avforums) but nowadays it's very rare.

the way i usually do it is i'm prepared to take ANY tv over a certain standard. i start looking mid january onwards and only buy when i see a model at a very good deal and available at john lewis so i can get them to price match which can also take 2-3 days for them to do.

there is no guarantee you will get a cheap decent tv doing this but the more time you put into researching and looking around online constantly during that time the better your chances are.

i would spend around 15 mins 2 times a day googling the product number then checking every store which has stock for major drops in price. thing is you aren't the only one doing this so soon as you see a deal you like grab it quick.

Update - OLED55C6V ordered on the 2nd October from Currys. Still have friends there so got a VERY good deal.

TV arrived on the 9th and I had the perfect wall to mount it on. Unfortunately after the guys scanned it they found an obstruction behind, pipes or cabling (not sure). In any case we have a nice wooden stand that it looks perfect on.

The missus, the lil'un and myself are totally blown away. Wildlife documentaries are amazing and Jessica Jones and Luke Cage in Ultra HD are fantastic!

Thank you for the advice gentlemen, a choice well made :)

Do you do any gaming on them? OLED looks great and doesn't have motion blur, but if you are getting Xbox One S or PS4 Pro, then HDR gaming would be pretty horrendous at 65ms+ input lag.

Nah no gaming mate. The chap at currys recommended quantum dot technology over OLED for gaming.

Strictly wildlife docos, Netflix and Blu-rays. I'm not even into sport unless it's Muay Thai or other martial art so not losing out on too much.
