Not Sure What Card To Buy Have £360

I have £360 tops to blow on a card. I owned a 1070 for a week and sold it for a profit but since I have found going back to using my 750ti insufferable.

I do have a few concerns over DX 12 performance and haven't owned a higher end card since the geforce 7800 days so maybe I'd be satisfied even with a mid range or 470. I'd plan on using it for 4 years plus as I'm too lazy for reselling and upgrading.

1070, what else for that budget? You are over thinking things. Just buy a 1070 and enjoy your games. Most of the crap posted here is exactly that, just fanboy crap in a never ending point scoring competition.

The best card you can buy for that money is the 1070. In 4 years, no card you will buy now will be worth a damn anyway.

I mean, the only realistic alternatives to a 1070 would be perhaps a used 980 Ti or a Fury. I don't see the point in buying something like a 470 if you want it to last you years. You'd be relegated to medium settings on some newer titles like Mankind Divided even now at 1080p, let alone in three or four years.

It blows things out the water in DX 11 by a massive margin but there are various DX 12 games where lesser cards would come within 10-15 frames. Then again those were AMD optimized.

Mind you I did get mine for £340, but felt that without maybe getting a 144hz monitor I wasn't getting the most out of it and as worried about depreciation since I hadn't had a high end for nearly a decade.

The nixxes and square themselves have said anything above medium and high on most settings is designed for future cards, it was DE:MD that made me reconsider my 1070 though.

I'm not sure DE:MD is a good metric to measure future performance by when the 1070 was doing well in Witcher, MGS 5 etc.

I ended up making £80 off my 1070 though.

Second hand 980ti to hold you over until something else comes along ?

The hold over part is ignoring my extreme laziness in selling things, I only sold the 1070 due to a special offer on ebay where I'd pay a maximum of £3 selling fees.

Bloody new API's messing things. News of a rebadged 1070 next year also annoyed me.

what are you talking about? You can't think about what's coming next year. I can never understand this point of view. If something was coming in the next couple of months I could understand waiting. But worrying about what's coming next year? If you are buying a card now for 4 years, you don't have any options at your price range. It's the 1070. There is no better card out there. Stop worrying about API's.

Fair enough, as for 144hz? Is it worth the downgrade to TN?

I was looking at this http://www.viewsoniceurope.com/uk/products/lcd/XG2401.php

you should ask in the monitor section, you might get better answers. It's also personal preference. Some people can't stand TN, others don't mind.

AMD might well have a Vega card or two out in the next 4-6 months.

No-one's answering about my inquiry of 144hz being worth going to a TN panel : <
Nobody can answer that for you. Do you want a better quality image or do you want higher framerates? There is no 'right' answer here.

He wanted more than a 2 year warranty. Looks a good ard for SLI.
I was tempted to side-grade to a 1070 as I've had an offer of £300 for my 980 Ti G1 but I can't see any of the cheaper ones overclocking well enough to retain my current performance level, and I'll upgrade before better DX12 perf/8GB over 6GB becomes an issue. Damn the upgrade itch!

Their isn't a big enough performance difference between the 980 TI and the 1070 to warrant an upgrade, maybe a 1080 or above but you'd need to pay the cost to be the boss.

I'm happy with mine for now I'll won't upgrade for a couple of years now until things get a little more sensible.
