As above,

been running at 4.6GHZ for years, but has now failed, started as a simple freeze this morning, Ive spent tall days trying to get the dam thing working......and its given me some very odd results,

Most of the time it would just power on then off, then on then off, etc. eventually tells me that I need to re-set bios to its defaults which I have done many times today,

I have done the following,

removed all other hardware from the machine
changed RAM some brand new DDR3 Corsair Vengence 2400 (2x8Mb)
reset BIOS
Upgraded BIOS to f9 revision
Tried brand new SSD drive

every now and again I can get into windows and it might run for 10min or 30min, but it will crash and freeze in the end, but most of the time just power cycles.

now what i find very strange is that the CPU in the BIOS is showing as it should (3,5Ghz) but when i use CPUI ID etc, it seems to be running around 3.7ghz, yet the multiplier is 35??

Im sturggling to determine if its the motherboard or CPU at fault??? any suggestions please? as Im noew pulling my hair out.

I would try a new motherboard battery. Maybe pull the graphics cards and try booting to windows with the IGP.

forgot to say, I have removed the video card, using internal intel one at the minute...

you think the battery could be causing an issue?? happy to try anything at the minute, its driving me mad...

Just checked the battery, showing 3.2v so thats defiantly fine.

built outside case and re-tested , same results

One thing that is odd though, and was the same in the case also, is that when it would finally enter the BIOS, I never actually managed to see it freeze or crash, it would do that on booting or using windows.

Maybe increasing voltage on the cpu might help. Have you run memtest on the ram? Pc plugged directly into wall socket? Sorry if you've tried these.

increasing the cpu voltage is not going to help, its now running as stock,

Interestingly, it has now just gone to black screen whilst in BIOS, im beginning to think that its the M/B causing the issues.

Sounds like the Bus Clock (speed) fluctuating too much. Monitor that. If you use something like HWiNFO64 you can check to see what the maximum reading for it has been during a session.

I would do, but cant get it to run long enough most of the time...

I have also just tried another 650w PSU, same result though...

Do you think that its failed somehow due to being overclocked for so long??

spent ages again, trying new settings, more voltage etc, when the board freezes it wont even respond the reset button or power button...
