I know this is a loaded question, looking for new handsets for me and the Mrs. I'll be upgrading from my beloved nexus 5 and she needs to replace a Samsung galaxy.

The £250 price tag is vert appealing and just wondering if now is a good time to buy or if there are new things on the horizon?

As already said, you're better off with the OP3 - it is the phone that OnePlus actually got right and is pretty much one of the fastest Android devices out there. The screen isn't all that, but the device ticks all the boxes in almost every area.

I'm jealous everytime I use my wife's OP3. It feels so much nicer in use than my 6P.

Much respect derserved for that post, honest Nexus users are hard to come by. ;)

Really? Other than max brightness it's hardly any worse than the screen on the Note 7.

As long as it's OLED and has sRGB calibration, it doesn't get much better.

Screen reflectivity seems ok too. Just lacks the super brightness.

It's the 1080p resolution that bugs me (as a 6P owner) and the brightness yes. I love a densely packed screen.

The wife's OP3 has brightness set quite high (75% or so) and sometimes it's still not enough in daylight so she has to ramp it right up. I think this is with adaptive brightness switched off.

I thought 1080p would be a issue being Pentile but to my surprise I have had no problem with it at all. Everything seems plenty sharp.

Now the stock DPI it came with 480DPI - everything seemed a little to chunky and big. Dropped the DPI to 400 and everything is smaller and crisper. No need for root either to do this.
