Do you lube your tube...?

I'm referring to PETG rubber tube inserts for bending, before anyone gets too excited :p. I've seen some manufacturers recommend soapy water, but won't this leave residue in the petg that will then contaminate your loop, or will a rinse out afterwards sort that out? I've tried a few practice bends with just the rubber alone and it's rather tight.

I don't but I've found it depends what brand of insert you have and tubing. E.g if you have the ek petg and insert its all fine, but if you use the xspc insert with the ek petg its an absolute nightmare to get in as the insert is slightly thicker. I found using water to rinse and the let it dry in the air over night just fine when i needed it.

I think it's a barrow tube I have, using on EK PETG (12/16mm). It's a good fit, snug, but when I remove after bending it feels a bit too tight.

I've heard olive oil works well too but again you'll need to give everything a proper clean afterwards. Maybe the tried and tested spit would work too? :p

Olive oil is amazing... Washes out really easily and is prefect as a lubricant with high temperature resistance.

Damn click bait titles always get me :)

From washing the pots many times i've found hot soapy water easily washes away oil. I'm not sure how hot those hardline pipes are ok with but i imagine if its cool enough to put your hands in then its ok for the pipes.

I wouldn't have thought oil would wash out easily at all... what did you use to clean the tubes with afterwards?

Fairy liquid is purpose made to remove grease, warm soapy water or if you want to get flashy a dishwasher tablet dissolved is stronger. Just rinse thoroughly and the with distilled.

Fill the tube partially and shake it about or soak, rinse with some hot water and then distilled and its all good.

OK that sounds like a plan, thanks. :)

No worries - as another random bit of info I also found that visually the oil lube starts to shift at the exact moment the PETG is ideal for bending. It sounds really random but try it out and you'll see what I mean, I could see it start to shift around between the insert and tube and I found that to the be perfect balance between too hot and too cold for bending.

Might just have been me but let me know if you find the same!

I've seen one or two warercooling builders using WD40 to help ease in the silicone tube. Anyone given this a try?
