Made a stupid mistake

Hey all - just thought I'd post on an error I've made and get advice from anyone willing to offer any

Basically I booked a holiday to the states in November - Going from dublin-london then london-vegas

Only noticed today however that I went and spelt my own name wrong ffs - missed out a single letter on my surname

I did book it about a month ago so Im well past tbe 24hr allowance - but I phoned expedia anyways and they phoned british airways who denied the request to change the surname (add in a single letter), I honestly was suprised by this because I thought the flight isnt for a while and its not like im changing anything major (or so I thought), just a minor typo - how wrong was I.

So I phone british airways directly (just in hope) - and they said they cant make any changes - becuase the first part of the trip (from dublin to london) is with a different airline (think they said ryanair) so they cant make any changes....** fully star swear words, please - EVH **

Phoned back up expedia got a different operator went through the same details and he phoned british airways got the same response - says that the only way around it is to cancel my flight and rebook - which he then had a look at and (without quoting a price) said they were all a lot more expensive - said he will phone BA tomorrow and ask for the manager to see if there is anything else that can be done (had a google about and I really dont like my chances!)

I really wish I had paid more attention when booking but I didnt catch my typo (lesson learned!)

Anyone any advice? Or anyone with recent experience with this want to tell me how screwed I am ��

Legally change your name and get a new passport, then change it back when you return. It'll be cheaper than rebooking flights. I'm serious!
 
get the details of the connecting flight, call the airline, and change the name. normally there's a fee, but only about 60-70 quid.
 
Well if you arw being serrious - Would that work out without issue? Change name on passport - get it back in time, apply for the esta under a new name that wouldnt have much info to search for?

I know someone that did it traveling in Europe, but I don't know about the U.S. You could always ring your local U.S. embassy and ask.

Oh lovely response

I could try to contact the embassy - read about some people having a note on file mentioning the typo should you get pulled on it - say that its not certain but best the can do. (Never seen any replies from those people to see if it worked though)
 
I made in from Heathrow-Schiphol-Guangzhou-Taipei and back with a middle name on my tickets and no middle name on my passport... A few questions were asked in Guangzhou on the way back in as I had a 72hr visa there but no real issues... Chance it I say
 
When booking anything treble check and check again, before clicking confirm. ;)

Am not sure what you can do personally, the only thing I can think of is to take your drivers licence and try to wing it.
If stopped Say it must be a clerical error as if its the last letter of your name then you might get away with it.

But I dunno big risk. :confused:

Sorry its not the last letter - My surname ends in herty and i typed hrty
 
Flew from Scotland to Amsterdam to texas and the reverse afew years back with an extra letter in my surname thanks to the idiots in HR booking tickets and not a single question was asked until Amsterdam on the return leg and they let me fly as I'd flew the outbound and return journeys with there airline and I'd threatened to raise hell if I wasn't allowed on.

Risk it if all else fails.
 
Yeh I seen people say they got by with a mis-spelling - but they tend to be a few years ago - you you have to have an electronic passport from this year (which I have) and I think because of this everything has to match up - passport is scanned and its electronic - if a letter is missing it will be flagged, has hoping I could get some recent examples lol

2011 mine was when electronic passports just began the rollout as iv the same passport. But I believe it wasn't as widely checked

This is the States though, specifically McCarran Airport. I don't even dare look them in the eyes there, they're all moody as **** and will certainly have no issues about ruining your day! Well, from what I've seen anyway.
