Do you guys buy helmets online? My CBT instructor made a good point of never buying online as the helmets often get flung around in vans, depots, fall off pallets, etc. He reckons that helmet couriers who deliver to dealerships are specialists in fragile stuff, dunno how true that is.

Given that a helmet is the inky thing between my dome and imminent death, I think I'd prefer to go in store. Helps get a better fit too.

cos I won't be buying it until next spring/summer, by which time it'll be release and discounted :p

Yep, instore - luckily helmet city and quite a few other shops are a short ride away for me.

Order from SportsBikeShop. No questions *free* returns (i.e. they pay delivery back to them), so you can order any clothing or helmets and return the ones you don't like or don't fit.

The SBS packaging for helmets is also good. Double boxed - so you get a big SBS box packed with packing material and the smaller helmet box inside. The smaller helmet box also provides some protection. No chance of the helmet getting damaged unless the box is completely destroyed in which case you'd refuse delivery anyway. Every helmet I've had from them has been in perfect condition, including the actual helmet box, so there's no chance they were damaged (you'd notice on the box).

Yeah but not by £120 :p unless you are very lucky! ;)

Yeah in store for me too, helmet city in Cheltenham isn't very far, maybe a 40 minute ride.

With SBS you can also get away with being a cheeky so and so and return it when you find out it whistles like a kettle when you're on the bike. Which you obviously can't do if you've bought in store.

Yeah full price for these is £479.99, no-one pays that though do they? :p

£350 is more about right, it's not even out yet, 2017 colours.

I never pay the full price for anything :p For my next helmet I want a carbon lid, I'll treat myself to one after passing DAS. :D

Ahh you'd be surprised, give it a few months and there'll be some money off. Even if they are full price helmet city include a spare visor (£45). There's always the shows too, I remember getting a price on the shaky byrne NXR at the London bike show, and it was tempting...

That's the one thing I wish shoei/arai did, although the price would probably be ridiculous!

Yeah... I tried LS2 Carbon lid in Essex when one of the guys we rode with said he needs a new lid. It fitted better than my shoei, LS2 is quite a popular brand. It just looks quite cheap, that logo is just... like it came from the 80-90's.

The bell star carbon is nice but at £599.99 it's rather extortionate!

When's the next bike show on? I'd like to get some tickets for me and my dad to go.

Might do, depends on the weather though - November could be warm or it could be snowing! It's a 5 hour round trip so I'd do it on the Tuono, the CB400 wouldn't be enjoyable sitting on the motorway for 300 miles, but if there's been salt on the road the Tuono will have been tucked away by then.

The London show is only 50 minutes away by comparison, on in February.

I might go, but again depends on the weather. Is there a motorcycle parking there or do you guys leave the bikes in a cheeky spot hoping that you won't get a ticket? :p

Carrying the helmet everywhere is going to be a b...

There's motorcycle parking but there's also been a lot of them being nicked from there recently.

If I was going I'd take the train but then it's only 20 minutes straight through from wolves.
