Had a quick look round a local dealer, they had an 09 civic-type-r GT in Silver with only 24k miles on it for £9k. It certainly looked the part, are they also very stiffly sprung like the bread van version?

Far too much to pay for one, the low mileage is needlessly driving up the price. Relatively practical for a 3 door hatch despite the firm ride though, runs rings round the others mentioned in terms of handling (even though the fn2 gets a hard time) - but yeah you'll lose out in straight line terms above 60/70ish and tbh without being properly horrible to the car it wouldn't get anywhere close to their claimed 0-60 either if that floats your boat

Looks like a reasonable amount of car for the money. They're supposed to drive very well.

You could lower your budget and look for an early and high ish mileage manual E90 330i. You could get a decent one for £6k, or even a cheap one for £4k. Save the rest of the budget for a suspension overhaul.

Decent amount of poke with 260 bhp, a pleasant noise, fairly refined, and will do 35 mpg + on a run.
