Agreed. The best thing about it? It's short. Nobody sings the full version. A few secs of "blah blah blah blah, blah blah" and we're done.

Other than that, I don't believe the queen deserves special treatment from God or anyone else. The words don't reflect anything about modern Britain, apart from the fact that we still have a ceremonial monarchy, and that a lot of older Brits have a penchant for keeping centuries old traditions alive (see mayoral robes, chains and gowns, town criers, etc).

So yeah, the national anthem is a bit ****.

It's also quite absurd to watch a pub full of wasted football thugs singing "God save the queen". It's surreal.
