Hello guys.

My old man is looking to upgrade his work laptop he has been given a budget of £900 and basically told me to pick what he wants.

I have pretty much zero knowledge on what's good value for laptops the moment but I know his basic requirements are:

  • 15.6" screen (Likes his laptop bag)
  • Full HD Resolution (No higher as his eyes would apparently struggle)
  • SSD / Variation of as main harddrive
  • -- Battery life not a concern
  • -- Does not require huge amounts of space
  • -- Work type is accounting based so no video rendering req's
  • -- Requires windows based system

I was initially looking at a Dell Lattitude but thought there must be better value about but kept getting distracted by trying to get him a gaming laptop which I don't think is the best route at this price.

There is no reason to save money as it is being paid by the company so as close to the £900 is the aim.

Is it 900 ex vat? or inc vat?

You could probably get the new XPS 15 inch with FHD screen for this price if you ask Dell hard enough for discount.

Accounting based and they are throwing 900 at it?
An HP probook 450 G3 with oodles of ram and decent ssd would do that for almost half the money. If it doesnt need to be spent, why spend it?

Open to all suggestions of decent laptops that cover the basic requirements. It's a business expense so in his mind he's just spending the net + tax saved. Rather be overly powerful and a nice laptop to use than one that ticks the boxes but is lower spec to safe a hundred or so as it'll make up for it in the long run.

Another heads up with regards to the Dell XPS 15 9550, the base model can now be had for just over £1000 with the promotional 12% discount that they've currently got in place until tomorrow - it may be a little bit out of your budget but it's worth considering.

Liam.

Hi rawuk

You may want to have a look at our GL62 available at Overclockers

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...x-960m-2gb-gddr5-gaming-laptop-lt-24t-ms.html

15.6" FHD
i7 6700HQ
GTX 960M
128Gb SSD + 1TB
8Gb DDR IV
DVD Super Multi
Win 10

For under £900 this is a very good all round notebook which is powerful enough for day to day tasks. Lots of storage space, and decent graphics if he or you decides you want to do some gaming on there.

Would be outside his budget unfortunately. Thanks for the heads up.

20% off Latitude E7470 right now at the Dell Outlet.
I couldn't find an E7470 on there. Probably being blind!

The old man may game on it if able with Simcity / Anno 2070. This actually looks to tick all the boxes quite nicely!

Hi rawuk, I ran our specs on Game Debate for you
