*** The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Thread ***

Going to give Samsung a call now to see what kind of deal they can offer me for the S7 Edge.

/Edit: Their lines are jammed... the Note 7 Exchange Programme number is ringing for a bit and then being directed to the normal Samsung UK Shop one.

Not possibly, but definitely paid by Google :p

I can't see any Note owner moving to the Pixel XL. It might have Android 7.1, but that is the only "spec" plus point. Everything else on the Galaxy is better, and appeals to the kind of buyer looking to buy a Note in the first place.

Your first point: no and never.

Your second point: Only spec plus point? Really. I see as plus points 7.1, Google Assistant, 24/7 customer support including screen share with support staff---a big deal following the Note 7 fiasco, free unlimited storage for full resolution photos and videos in the cloud,Smart Burst for the camera, no bloatware-pure Google experience, to name but a few.

Surprised to see the amount of people considering a switch to Apple (not just on here) due to this issue. I think as long as people aren't too bothered about customisation, the iPhone is worth a go. The high end phone market is fairly stagnant now, so switching OS might provide something more interesting, I'm not convinced the Pixel will be any more successful than the Nexus line, probably less so due to the cost.

I have tried out a OnePlus 3 and was very impressed considering the cost.

I've gone there.

Let's break things down.

7.1, Google Assistant
OEM handsets will also be supporting Google Assistant, and depending on the OEM, 7.1 will also be updated in time.

24/7 customer support including screen share with support staff
While this is a good thing for Pixel owners, just how many people have had the need for this kind of service in the 8+ years of Android? The majority of people get their phones through contract deals, and as such deal with their networks for the bulk of the issues they come across. Google have added this service in because of their current mission objective to target iPhone owners.

free unlimited storage for full resolution photos and videos in the cloud
Again, a nice feature, but this also ties people to always buying a Pixel phone, or be forced to pay a monthly subscription for Drive storage allowances. On the other hand, the subscription is dirt cheap as it is, and generally works out cheaper in the long run anyway. Galaxy devices have SD card slots, so the amount of storage is only limited to the maximum card sizes available today at the moment (256GB).

,Smart Burst for the camera
SmartBurst has existed on OEM Android phones for many years, this is nothing new, or a USP to Pixel.

no bloatware
Can't argue with that, although it has to be noted that the S7 has very little additional bloat unlike previous Samsung phones. And where there are a small number of Samsung apps that someone might not want, Package Disabler off the Play store gives full control to disable them without root. Essentially only the Oculus apps are the annoying ones if you never use a Samsung VR headset.

Pretty much everything else can be customised to be as busy as you like, or as minimal as a Nexus - Depends on how far you want to go with customising your own phone.

Fast tracking the s8 could be a mistake, rumour was they fast tracked the note7 to beat the iphone7 release. If google hadn't been so greedy they could have snapped up millions of Samsung customers, as it is there's nothing in the pixel phones that justifies anything close to the price being charged.
I can see JohnLewis expect to do well, their Edge7 was £599 2 weeks ago, then £619...now it's £629.

1. Google Assistant. Key words in your comment: in time. Who knows how long that will be? As an OEM Samsung is not the quickest to update. Unlikely this year. Sometime next year.

2. There will be many Pixel owners that will find the 24/7 support a real value add. Many are not technical and sophisticated owners who can or are interested in customisation and hand-holding will be a great comfort to them. Screen shot sharing a real plus.

3. I have friends who spend on average £ 3 to £ 5 per month for additional storage with Google Nexus phones, or £ 36-60 per annum . This is a nice free, money saving exclusive for the Pixel.

4. I was unaware Smart Burst was so widely available so point taken.

I note the market today marked down Samsung shares by 8% in Seoul today, according to press reports. That is a huge drop in market value so clearly if so-called smart money thought that it would be as easy as assuming most Note 7 owners were going to be simply switching to another Samsung phone, this reaction would not have happened.

Time will tell. My view is that the Pixel will be a much bigger seller due to the unfortunate fiasco at Samsung.

I doubt this will hurt Samsung for future galaxy/mobile sales that "much" tbh. Even when the competition has had the universally better phones (according to reviews + majority of techies on the likes of xda), they still outsold their competition by a **** load.

And yeah, personally I would take the pixel over the note 7 any day of the week still :p The only reason I would take the note 7 over a pixel would be for the design/build/look + water resistance and s-pen.

I'm a Note 5 owner, was lined up for the Note 7, have just ordered a Pixel XL.

None of that holds any real interest to me, especially when the hardware is soo lacklustre.

Dad is going back to an iPhone as he was on the iPhone before. But wife will be getting the iPhone to sell on and wait till next year.

I'm also a fan of the S Pen for quite a few apps and will miss it so it's not just about pure screen size. Maybe they'll just merge it with the Edge in S8 with the Note name now under fire.

But but but...no hardware home button. below the screen looks big and bare, does it do anything? no card slot so you'd need to pay the extra for the 128gb version. It really seems just like a generic android device compared to the likes of the Galaxy range etc.
