**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S7/Edge Thread ****

I get 4 hours SOT and 21% of my battery is eaten by Android OS i've noticed that a few days now.. seems to high, chrome isnt eating much battery at all nor is mediaserver.

Android OS has been high for me too (around 20%) since I got the phone in May. Frustrating but I've not been able to find a fix.

For those who have not yet, and use headphones often on the S7, be sure to enable Adapt Sound and run through the setup to tailor the DAC to your ears and earphones. It really makes a sizeable difference, even though the DAC is good by default anyway.

This applies to both Bluetooth and wired earphones.

Thanks for the tip... I tried this and to be honest I can't tell any difference when toggling the switch on/off, although granted this is just with a pair of cheapish soundmagic headphones and using Poweramp (which may override with its own settings anyway?)

Edit: Using Google Play Music I can hear the difference clearly. Its obviously just correcting for deficiencies in your headphones, quite a useful feature, shame it doesn't work with Poweramp (but then that seems to have its own sound engine).

Yeah if your player has its own audio engine then that takes priority unless you turn it off in settings, GoneMAD is the same :)

Leaving it on is no problem though as it allows itself to be used by all other apps system wide.

Maybe a rogue app? Usually is the case.

I'm getting 7+hrs SoT comfortably again after a few weeks of not using Chrome anymore.

Checking battery usage nothing sticks out.

android system is 15%, screen is 25%,cell standby is 12%, android OS is 9%

My battery on this phone is crap.
Had it since July. Finally getting them to send me a new one, but I have a feeling it's the phone.
This is my first Samsung since the S3, and not sure I'll be sticking with it.
The phone is awesome......but I can't have a phone that doesn't last more than 12-15hrs with not much usage.

Just to confirm....S7 battery is some what decent and on par with other phones right?
As this is what I regularly see:

I have been considering getting one of these phones as an upgrade from my old Nexus 5 but was curious about a couple of things :)

  • The S7 & the Edge both seem to have similar specs apart from the screen size/design. Other than the size of the screen is there any advantage to go with the edge over the normal S7 considering its normally more expensive? (ie are the curved edge features actually useful or gimicky)

  • The note 7 obviously has had one or two battery issues ;) have there been any problems with the S7/Edge?

  • Is the Samsung VR actually any good as a VR headset? (not expecting to be running around in Skyrim or anything but would like some enjoyable VR experiences without the screen door effect the older occulus rift had)
Thanks for any answers in advance :)

The other advantage other than screen size is the larger battery, but those are the only two things really. I wouldn't say any of the edge features are worth having, just down to whether you want the larger screen/battery and like the look, some people prefer the flat screen and size of the normal one.

No fires I'm aware of but I could well have missed it.

There is a VR thread somewhere here that's worth checking. Personally I wasn't terribly impressed. It was interesting to get a tiny taste of what VR could offer, but the display needs to be better to use for any period of time. I've probably played around with it for a couple of hours in total.

Pretty disappointed with most of the dark themes on the store. Most of them either look tacky, suffer from legibility issues or have that awful green tint that has been copied from AOSP. I decided to make my own, happy to share here if anyone wants it: http://bit.ly/2dSMGLs I made an AMOLED black version too, but it just doesn't look as good in my opinion.

Note that as I'm not a registered Samsung theme provider, when installed it will appear as a trial version. To prevent it reverting after 5 minutes, download and apply the theme then freeze/disable the 'Theme Store' and 'Themes' apps. Titanium backup or Package Disabler pro can do this.
If you're rooted, even easier is to move /data/overlays/jsonfiles/trialjson/com.l33.dark.json to /data/overlays/jsonfiles/userjson/ then reboot.

Been using a Note 7 rom on my S7 Edge for a while now, mainly because the AOD actually shows all notifications. Has the S7 Edge been updated to show them all now or does it still only show Samsung stock apps?

Want to switch back to an S7 rom since the Note recall means there probably wont be any more updates.
