***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

People can do what they want with their money, but I personally don't like what companies like Lepin are doing in terms of aggressively copying a product. It would be better in some ways if they were obviously worse quality.

I also hope people don't try to start passing off the knock-offs as genuine when they post photos of sets they have bought. Maybe we need to require photos of the box Logo and instructions too :p

Yeah I would rather keep the fake / imitation stuff out the thread.

Can't stand stuff like that, it will end up being mixed in with real Lego and sold in bundles and such ..... Essentially making the eBay market even more risky

Has anyone ordered there lego advent calender yet? Yours for a snip at £25 with a figure each day (my wife was ordering some stuff from boots and saw it advertised). I was tempted but not at that price.

Initially I thought the same, then thought about the hypocrisy of how much aggressively copied chinese stuff I have bought over the years. People are always happy to turn a blind eye to stuff like this when it suits. It's not passable as lego if you were sold it, but it looks the same assembled. As I said if your aim is just to display lego and it looks identical no one is going to care.

I'd like people to post it, even more if they don't say it's a knock off to see if people even notice.

Don't get why? I'd like to know if I can save a few quid on a set that someone said was good quality.

I just think that if you like the brand and it's products then you should support it, and not buy some rip off version.

I agree with others that I wouldn't pay £1k+ for some of the OOP sets, so I would consider the Lepin version. But something would always be in the back of my mind saying "yeah, you're just a fake" and it simply won't have the same satisfaction.

So you never buy knock off Chinese versions of anything? Phone holder for the car and so on. As I said Younguo flashes is a prime example, lots of people in this thread buy those and don't bat an eye lid ripping off canon for a reverse engineered product that performs 95% as well. If you don't buy any of that stuff good on you, but I think it's a bit hypocritical to get upset just because it's lego and we love lego.

I think Lego pricing has been suspect of late.

Where this is going to become a problem is when people buy minifigs or 'unique' parts for a self-build Falcon etc from eBay/bricklink without necessarily knowing whether they are getting the real deal or knock off stuff.

Diddums put it perfectly...

I'm divided on this one. Personally, I think this is offensive to LEGO and nobody should touch it ever.

HOWEVER! As someone who grew up in South Africa and only living off the cheapest toys / hand-me-downs (sob story etc) I can see the appeal. For a young child whose parents can't afford much, this makes one of Lego's most famous sets that much more accessible to them, and despite being fake, no child should be deprived of the magic that is building LEGO.

I just hope that it comes with a file and some plasters for all the burs.

The minifigs are nowhere near as good quality in my experience and the actual bricks don't have the lego logo. Custom parts, I really wouldn't care if they were good quality.

I'd be all over that in better quality.

I got the 2016 Starwars calendar a few weeks ago for £20

I totally get your point as well, and yes, maybe I am being a bit hypocritical because I've probably bought lots of the cheap rip off stuff before. And there is no denying that it is quite expensive for what it is.

Maybe I'm just putting Lego on a pedestal, but I'll stick to the real deal for as much as possible.

I've seen the City and Star Wars ones in Toys R Us, I had the SW one last year but this years' doesn't look like it has as much in it, the City one looks better this time so I might go for that.

I only have a few sets of Lego - ARCOS truck, Slave 1, X-Wing, Tumbler. All legit Lego. I'm willing to pay a hundred or so for a set that I really want, and I'm very very selective because quite frankly it is expesive stuff.
I really want the Falcon but, haha, I'm not paying 4 grand for it. I'm willing to take a chance on the knock-off stuff for a single purchase because I can justify the cost saving in this case and the fact that it's a rare item. Time will tell on the quality.

I'm tempted to buy the Disney Castle as a gift.

Would I be right in thinking these sets can increase in value? Even if assembled?

Its a big gift! Just making sure it won't get reduced in a few months to a knock down price.

buy the official set and keep it sealed BNIB for investment, then buy the Lepin version to play with :p

Some of that knock off stuff looks alright, don't think I would buy an in production set I could easily get; personally, but some of the extortionatly priced out of production models, I can see the temptation. If anyone gets the UC Falcon post up some pics.
