Have XFX managed to deliver the RX480 that was promised by AMD?

Bought the XFX Radeon RX 480 RS last week to replace a R9 270 that i broke , that was noisy and this is just the same.
Dont know if the DSR will let me exchange it for the GTR , will have to ask them.

Can return for any reason within 14 days. I sent an RS Edition back myself for being a noisy piece of trash. The GTR and MSI Gaming X seem to be the way to go for 480s. The Strix is loud too, despite the huge cooler.

Is there a chart somewhere of noise comparisons? I have the Nitro+ and it's... not bad.. but i feel it could be quieter. How does it compare to the GTR and MSI Gaming X?

TBH I don't know why manufacturers don't just start selling full sized cards with just a good heatsink and fittings for adding our own 120/140mm fans. I modded my old GPU and added a 120mm one, it was so quiet and ran much cooler than stock :/

You'd have to read reviews for the individual models.

The MSI from what I've read is the probably the best for noise.

Yea i modded a old card with the
Morpheus High Performance VGA Cooler or what ever and it was soo much better than the stock cooler. had two 140mm fans on it and never needed more than 20% speed. Could run them upto 50% and still not hear the fans but didn't need that much speed.

I wish they would do something like that but have the cooler integrate VRM and Ram chips too. Then again i can see some people not liking it as it became a 3slot beast but i allways run single card so im good :)

My MSI Gaming X is almost completely silent and runs so cool :)

Never seen it go above like 60c even after hours of gaming and I have never heard the fans.

Just installed an XFX rx 480 GTR. This is my first AMD card and wow I am quite disappointed with all the hassle, it's noisy too 0_o. Like jet turbine noisy.

Anyone got any idea for fan profiles and clocking?

I don't get how aftermarket cards are noisy when I have never heard the fan on my day one reference 480.

Not saying people are lying, I just don't get it.

Could be that they have really poor case cooling, and/or yours is very good?

If the ambient temperature inside the case is higher than yours even an aftermarket could be louder.

You can only go so far with it (90c usually), no fan is silent once you go above a certain speed. The only way to have a truly quiet GPU is a fan mod (cheapest and easiest way, basically just take the cover off and strap some fans to the stock heatsink) or watercooling (expensive way).

You could also try capping the FPS to reduce the load on the card, that will keep temperatures down.

You sound more like you're making excuses for a crap product when in comparison to others. This is really not good.

I have one of these and I laugh when I read people reporting 'cool' 480s running at 70c under load. Mine seems to keep itself around 60c and it's audible but not loud by any means. The build quality is really good too. It feels really solid and substantial without being overly heavy.

The only thing I don't like about this card is that the fans seem to have a life of their own. They report that they're running at 30% at idle when they're actually completely off, and they continue spinning at load speeds for a good couple of minutes after quitting a game even though the temp drops to the 30s. I guess they implemented some kind of custom fan curve in the bios?

Sounds like 30% is not enough power to get the fans spinning, but once they are the low duty cycle/voltage is enough to keep them going.
