Poll: VW ragged my Golf R

What should the OP do?

it's a young guy who has probably never driven a car as quick as the Golf.

Oi, that's offensive... :(

We've rented a M3 E92 for a day, apart from that I drove my mates S4 B6 (idk if it was stock) and Saab 9-3 Aero remapped to 250. I guess reparking an M5, doesn't count? :p

Although, you're right due to my age. A car with decent power (400 would do) will cost me an arm and a leg to insure. Although when I checked insurance for an R32 with 680bhp all mods claimed, it was around 3-4k to insure fully comp with 250 excess. :D I'll stay with bikes though, there'll be a point at which I'll get old or have kids and buy a car.

Just seen this thread and looked at the video. His driving standards are terrible and the thing that started it off was he got undertaken for lane hogging and then took the huff.

If it was my car I would be speaking to the dealer and showing the video. He in no way shape or form ragged it as if he was ragging it you would be seeing triple figures within seconds. But the driving standards in a customers car needs to be high-ligted to the dealer. Anyone who says they would be happy with a stranger driving that car and getting paid for it is ok doesn't care about their property. You are paying them to look after your car.

Why was he test driving it as with the stereo on he can not hear any faults?

As for the choice in music, he needs a bullet to the head.:D

The fact you are young is probably why you come across as though you don't know what you're on about. When you're a bit older and can see that a Golf R is not dull to someone more mature, you will get it.

We all know bikes are faster. We all know German cars are expensive.

I read more than I post on motors, its not just me who says that the Golf's are dull and not very exciting. Have a read through this thread and see how many people have said that there are more exciting cars in that price range. ;)

That's why I'm replying back to those that try to tell me its an exciting car... just saying I don't think it is and by the looks of things I'm not the only one. ;)

The Golf R is exactly as VW intended it to be. They have Seat for the more aggressive, sporty look, they have Skodas for the elderly and those who are a bit dull. ( tongue in cheek as I own a Skoda) And they have Audi for premium, badge snobbery.

Basically what I am saying is they have 4 different brands and they need to make them different from each other to target specific areas of the market.

If you don't like the Golf then buy a Seat or Audi, basically the same cars with bits added and taken away.

Does anyone else feel like we need some closure to this? OP will you report it or not?

I'm sure the OP has already posted this - It happened 2 months ago and he didn't report the guy but wanted opinions on what other people would do to spark debate.

Problem is if he went through a speed camera going that fast. Of course he will probably deny he was driving at the time (because 80 in a 40 would be a ban) and it would be a headache to sort out.

after watching the vid what the guy was doing is nothing difference to what I would be doing in MY car. in someone elses car id never be driving like that.

also if that's the op's idea of ragging a car then that car is clearly wasted on the OP.

So you drive like an idiot everywhere?
There's a 50mph limit in place on the way to town where I stay. Would you recommend 100mph?

Massive performance is pointless now as you'll end up on some prats dashcam on YouTube if you overtake too quickly anyway.

Yesterday's indignant headlight flashers are todays self righteous 4k front and rear dashcam warriors who think because they couldn't ovetake in a Picasso it must also be dangerous in an RS6.
That the main problem these days...

It not the speed camera's & speed traps that you need to worry about these days it other people dash cams or even your own dash cam ;)........

Without knowing the road it is difficult to say if it would be dangerous.

We have a video in the OPs case. The driver lifts off before the bend and is driving to the nature of the road itself. At no point would I say the speed was dangerous. They were driving too close to the Ford but that's it.

A speed limit is designed to be safe at the most dangerous points of the road as otherwise you would have to have different speed limits every 100m.

I would not be a passenger in that car and thinking the speeds being driven at were dangerous for the specific sections of road and weather conditions.

I'm waiting for that to happen, only a matter of time. If they can flash you simply for overtaking at under the speed limit, imagine what happens if you overtake at warp speed (by that I mean on the speed limit of course).

Who cares if someone puts you on youtube. Unless your doing something stupidly illegal nothing will ever come of it :P

How is 78 in a 40 not dangerous again?

In that video? Nope. Besides He didn't sustain it for long just a quick squirt up to speed and then let off. Don't tell me you've never done that on your bike ;)

I'm not suggesting one should drive at those speed so all the time, but in context it wasn't dangerous. Not legal clearly but at the same time hardly a menace to society.

I can get from 40 to 70 is 2 seconds, 1...2 that's it, if you ride a superbike probably 1 second. I think we have people being precious, most of who will have travelled at similar speeds in similar limits many times, such as when a motorway limit is imposed as you approach at motorway speeds and slow down finally when you hit the first camera, or on the West Mids toll road where everyone enters the 30mph zone at over 70mph. It should reported to the dealer and make them aware that driving a customer car like that is not acceptable, but to me leave it there. It's 2 months ago so the OP has nothing to worry about reference speeding.
