Hey

So curbed an alloy.

Only a smallish 1cm wide chip but enough to get down to metal through the powder coat and clear coat.

I was thinking of doing a basic repair with a small rub back with sand paper then use nail varnish to fill the chip in by layering it on.

Then finally a brushed on coat of lacquer.

Has anyone else done this?

I can't buy paint to match as the alloys are a custom black with rainbow flake, and I bet I can find a matching nail varnish quite easy in town.

As long as you're confident it doesn't break down over time.

Otherwise just go for black paint if it is so minor.

Black paint would stand out like a sore thumb without any flake. Surely a layer of clear coat would protect it?

May have to go buy some automotive black paint and mix in some flake if nail varnish will come off easy.

Just check whether the clearcoat will react with the nail varnish. Given how easily nail varnish comes off with some acetone you will likely find the clearcoat will cause the varnish to break down when its applied.

Surely he'd use clear coat nail varnish? Didn't even know such a thing existed but both my wife and daughter assure me that it does :)
