A little pro-tip for booking flights - big savings and a free hotel!

Yep, agreed that they can be cheap. My round trip last month doing Taipei-Shanghai-Rome, London-Shanghai-Taipei was £400. Never tried adding a hotel or car hire to it, but I can't imagine it can get much cheaper than that (at least since AirAsia stopped their budget KL to Stansted route).

Edit/ Ok, checking the exchange rate at the time it was £420.

I did that last year, awful awful awful, missed connection because they somehow guided us out and back through security (some 20+ didn't make the second flight) and then couldn't care less about sorting it out, just shrugged their shoulders and waffled about how they have thousands of missed connections in Frankfurt and to just wait in an unseated holding area for someone to sort it out later. I won't be using Lufthansa or going anywhere near Frankfurt again

I've got a 3 hour stopover and then a 6 hour one so I've been looking at what to do with the time spare time.

Also, what happens with my luggage do I have to collect it in Germany and then check it in again for it to get to Poland?

You can go via Iceland and make it two trips in one. I think Wow Air do it.

Great find OP. Was just last night looking at some flights for our honeymoon as the Mrs best friend works for BA so was going to use her discount for business class flights. Just did a test adding car hire and sure enough the price is several hundred quid cheaper!

I'm assuming she will be able to get access to these discounts (or more) on hotels aswell so happy days all round!

Not surprising. I fly fairly often between the UK and USA/Canada and the taxes and fees are usually more than the fare.

You can go via Iceland and make it two trips in one. I think Wow Air do it.
