2017 Honda Civic Type R

Looks like an utter mess. There is no hint of Type-R roots in these new models, shame. They've just slapped all manner of angles, pipes and vents into wherever and said "it looks like a Transformer now, this is what the kids like these days".

yea it looks very Ricer esp the triple exhaust pipes and the middle one has red trim on it  WOW that looks really naff.
i dont know what's gone wrong here, because it's been ``styled`` for a chavy 20 year old.............it's nothing like the Integra Type R, which looks great...........finally, it looks too bulky

350hp is too much for FWD.

As said before, why? It's no longer the late 90's, things have moved on.

The VW Golf Clubsport S (FWD) is around 25 seconds faster than the Golf R (AWD) round the 'ring. Technology moves on, and so there is nothing to say that using the FWD platform here isn't the best move for Honda.

Sure, it looks like it's been designed by a F&F fanboy, but at least it has the beans to back it up.

Personally, I'd reserve judgement until seeing it in the flesh. I didn't like the look of the current type r in pictures, but in the flesh, I don't think it looks "that" bad, for what it is.

I'm sure if they stuck a Golf R on Pilot Sport Cup 2's it would be a close battle...

Probably. But still doesn't take away from the fact that a FWD can take the power nowadays. I'm sure the tyres wouldnt have done much MORE than 25 seconds AND an extra 2 driven wheels.

the side view looks the same as the current version with the bonnet not going downhill so steeply (good)

actually, the more you look at it the better it looks..........the worst thing is its Ricer triple exhaust........but at least they've got rid of that banana shape

We hav yet to reach the core of this issue, that in 15 years time, there will be a 17 year old who buys one of these things and decides to put a bodykit on it, on top of that already ridiculous styling.

2nd attempt and it's still ugly as sin. Way to many awkward angles, maybe the designer has always yearned for an Reventon?

Front-end reminds me of an American muscle car? The back looks really nice. Something not right about the mid-section to front-end joint, can't quite put my finger on it, but it looks like the two sections are from separate cars and have just been stuck together.

Still looks as though it's trying too hard to me. What ever happened to the simple yet functional looking TYPE R cars?

The current Type R cars look terrible.

This. The older models weren't my cup of tea, but the latest versions are OTT. I'd expect a million horsepower given the number of wings etc on the latest model. It's like a slightly better designed max power cover car.

The Renault, Vauxhall, Ford etc offerings are much more restrained, while still looking agressive and there's VW for those looking for something understated.
