PS4 for an existing XBox one owner (10 year old) - yay / nay?

Our 10 year old has asked for a PS4 for Christmas, he's already got an Xbox one which he lives on but, since moving schools he's gained new friends with PS4's and a few have games that are not available for the Xbox one and he's suddenly interested in one!

We're we to get him one, it'll be most likely from CEX (as are the majority of his Xbox one games) whilst having two consoles is arguably overkill it would undoubtedly get a lot of use and open up more titles for him I guess, one thing we find with the Xbox one is there is relatively few age suitable titles available for it, we let him play some older rated games (Battlefront and Destiny) but not GTA V - despite him wanting it as it's popular amongst his friends(!) - does the PS4 have a good "lower age" selection of games or is it much the same as the Xbox one?

Thoughts appreciated.

You'll probably find he ends up playing the same games but on a new console, whilst I worked at game it was quite common for kids to constantly switch console based on what their most recent friends used.

I'd say it was overkill but you can pick up a PS4 relatively cheaply now, perhaps look on the MM for a good deal.

A stipulation will be he can't have games he already owns (for his One) for the PS4 and yes, it's a cheap used one or not at all!

What would you say is a ballpark good price for a used one? - a 500Gb PS4 is £215 at CEX and the two year warranty they give is better than new(!)

Honestly I couldn't tell you, I've not worked there for a couple of years now. Yeah the new warranty scheme with CeX is great.

If you're buying it for PS4 exclusives then you're wasting your money as they tend to typically be adult games. You could give him the ultimatum of swapping the Xbox One for the PS4.

Is there any reason why you want to buy from CEX? There are much better deals out there.

hahahha cex. you can buy brand new for cheaper. look on HUKD. if i was in your shoes. I would tell him the xb1 needs to go if he wants a ps4.

2 online subs instead of 1 that's instantly doubling the yearly sub from £30 a year to £60 a year. he will want the same games on both to play with different friends who only have 1 console, etc. Plus he's 10 years old 2 consoles at that age would be far too much.
