DVLA mot history check?

I'm trying to dig up some information about a car I used to own, by using the dvla mot history checker. After putting the details in, it appears that the car has been off the road since June of last year. However, I'm sure I saw it on the road a few days ago. I was just wondering, if a vehicle has been switched to a private plate and you enter the original plate details, will it only shows information up to the point the reg was switched?

I'm not sure what it's officially supposed to show but I have heard that switching between assigned and private plates can get it a bit confused.

I think it's still at the stage where it's a nice guide but shouldn't be taken as gospel.

I'm assuming it only shows info for the period the plate was on, on the car its currently on.

Searching my gf's private plate which was on a circa '05 pug 206 (until she forgot to put it on retention when selling it and is currently on a '14 428i) it says "No vehicle that matched the data you entered could be found."

It shows the complete vehicle history - as far back as the database goes so 2007ish - for every car using its currently applied registration number.

The reason the 428i cannot be found is because it hasn't ever had an MOT yet.

Yes, that's what I'm saying - "car it's currently on" - hence there being no data because the current car is too new.

I also tried the reg through the tax checking system and it also comes back as being off the road. If it only stores info up until the time it was switched to a private reg, then fair enough. If not, then I'm assuming its been either garaged or written off If anyone else wants to have a look, the reg is NU59NBA and it's (was...) a Vauxhall.

Which isn't true - you get the complete history using the current plate, irrespective of whether it had another plate on previously or not

Fair enough, I had no examples of private plates that I know how long they've been on to test!

I think you are spot on Fox but also I don't think this is necessarily the case that all data will be shown, however I can't shed any light on why some cars seem to be missing data. My car for example has had more than 1 private plate on it in the past, the plate b6xby went on it in 2011/2012, however I can only grab MOT history back to 2006. Effectively there are 5 years where there is no data on it at all.

Previous MOT's suggest that the plate changed around 2006/2007 and the car doesn't have history of being exported/imported so I have no idea why it doesn't go back any further.

edit: just read that the database only goes back to 2006/2007 from your post above... That explains it The plate change around that time is clearly just a coincidence.
