Anyone who breeds dogs for example will tell you some lines are disposed to aggression, or seizures, or mental health issues, and no responsible breeder would continue the line. But people? It's all societies fault, or they are economically deprived, or their education is poor. they are never plain genetically flawed. But such excuses are often in denial of unpalatable facts.

A darwin style society isn't a good thing you know..

I am torn. Yes, people need to be punished for their crimes.

BUT if those people will never see daylight again why waste the money. I'd do hanging too - anyone with any chance of the death penalty would have done something so disgusting and evil they deserve 'true' punishment in the only way they know. Paying for them to spend 50years rent free in a guarded room being fed and protected doesn't strike me as punishment.....

But once they are killed no crime can be overturned because there was no point so you've literally got to catch them in the act and it has got to be proven beyond any doubt using every technology on the go.

It should absolutely be reinstated onto the statute books. There are some people locked up that simply do not deserve to live, and especially not all cosy at the cost of the tax-payer.

Yes bring it back, it's a deterrence. And no cushy lethal jabs, just good old fashion hanging

Except its proven not to be a deterrent, just look at the US for mountains of empirical evidence to the contrary. Murders and severe crimes are either done in the heat of the moment without thinking about consequences, or out of some other desire where the perpetrator simply doesn't care about the consequences, or they dont think they will get caught, or they are just plane insane. No one rationally decides not to murder because they face the death penalty instead of life in jail, they decide not to murder because it is the morally wrong thing to do or they think they will get caught and either consequence is not worth it.

But what of the military that hit civilians by mistake

Like many on here, previously I would have voted yes, but not so much now. I would make the exception for a few though :).

The problem is knowing guilt beyond all doubt. Until science develops a way of reading people's memories, seeing the rot of evil to the core, we as a human race will not be able to progress from this catch 22.

I hate the phrase "a society is judged on how it treats it's prisoners", when the same society treats it's pensioners with equal contempt.

I vote yes, but certainly for specific crimes only e.g.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_James_Bulger

How much money has been spent on imprisoning the people above?

I can't see how or why it'd be beneficial to have these people alive?

You would execute children?

A mistake although very tragic is not murder, a war zone is a very dangerous place, mistakes happen.
