As the title suggests really.

I used to enjoy a good few pints/cans out over the pub etc.... . However the last year or so I prefer to be a hermit and stay in and watch a TV series or some PC gaming, I initially used to drink cans, but after a while I started to really hate large, so moved over to Whiskey/Rum.

Currently I'm drinking a 70cl bottle of whiskey or Rum a week!

My logic is that I only have 10% spirit and 90% diet coke, so I've worked out 60 cals instead of 300cals a drink. I'm slim with a bit of dad bod, I think not drinking larger has kept the weight off me.

I usually do half a bottle on a Wednesday night and finish the rest off on a Saturday.I don't drink any other time apart from this. I've become quite immune to its effect, so much so I am completely coherent and would be able to do pretty much the same thing as if I was sober... Which has lead to me think if that would be considered a "drink problem".

I spoke to a recovering alcoholic by chance a while ago and he summed it up, "if its more than money you lose, then its a problem".

Anything thoughts, its Friday and I'm bored mwahah.

Ha!! I've been debating about a thread like this for a while. I've gone through bad weeks where I can do a bottle of whiskey in a week also. Mainly due to being bored or on out of hours for work meaning i cannot get out in the evenings after work. Living alone, get a little bored/lonely lol

Ha! As a South African, all I can say is you're level 1.

Make the same thread again when you're level 5.

It's easy to see if you have a drink problem. Say to yourself Sat morning, I won't have a drink tonight. If you can do it, no problem.

Drink problems are categorised generally as not being able to stop once you've started.

You might drink too much, that's for you to decide really. I wouldn't say you have a problem though.

The liver heals itself, I find a good balance is to drink what you want and take a few months off after Christmas.

Haha exactly the same... I'm not gonna lie, sometimes its been more.... But never less. I am a very happy and content person, in fact when I previously was "down" I wouldn't drink.

My problem is that I can watch/enjoy a series without a drink!!!!

Literally couldn't do it. I couldn't go the whole weekend without enjoying a drink... HOWEVER, if I had something better to do then I wouldn't miss it... Does that make sense?

I'd say that puts it firmly in you having or developing an unhealthy reliance on it along with being able to function almost normally after half a bottle.

Then again it's no worse than a large proportion of the world get up to and if you happy and healthy otherwise.

yes you have issues.

Constructive...

I think that's reasonably normal, maybe a touch too much. You don't drink everyday and it doesn't sound like you depend on it. Hell, I can drink in excess of 3 or 4 bottles of wine a week if I go out on the weekends. If not then I'll have a glass every night. Maybe 2 or 3 Wednesday evenings as I have Thursdays off. I've had weeks go by where I've had none at all. It depends.

If you feel you can't operate without it, get help. Seriosuly. If not, probably cut down anyway as it's obviously playing on your mind. You don't want to get to the stage where you CAN'T drink again.

If I told you guys how much I drink I think you'd go nuts :D

Then again I work my arse off 7 days a week, have no kids, and will grow up when I have to. Until then, rock'n'roll baby :D

The problem is not how much you have but how much it effects your social, work and economic sides of life. If it affects them negatively with any significance, then by definition it is a problem.

approx 28 units per week, recommended amount is 14 units.

It's probably a bit high, really, for routine drinking.

Sounds about right.... But then I look at my dad and all his mate who go to the local rugby club and they must do the 14 units in and hour 3 4 times a week haha.

Why do you drink with such a routine?

Literally there is one single reason, TV Series.... Nothing else..... I could go for a meal on a Friday/Saturday night and I would have absolutely no interest what so even in having a drink!

Its CRAZY!

It becomes a problem if it's the first thing you want when you wake up!

Yuck.... Never.

Never... Maybe 10 - 15 mins late to work, but I'm flexi and purposely hit snooze.

I'd say you have a mild psychological dependency then. I'd just be careful and make sure it stays mild. Alchoholism can creep on people as it's a slow process.

I'd say you have little to worry about if you keep it how it is. Definitely take time out every now and then though.
