980TI to a 1070

Some will say yes some will say no, if you can justify the extra cash then go ahead but personally the only upgrade path for you would be the 1080

No. It'd be a complete waste of money unless it's going to cost you next to nothing. Overclock the 980 Ti if you haven't done so and you'll have something (at least) as fast as a 1070.

Nope, if you've got a good clocking 980Ti it'll outperform a 1070 a lot of the time.

If heat/power is your concern then the 1070 is a decent improvement and it's performance is ahead in DX12 titles.

If your choosing between them then the 1070 is a no brainer. If you already have a 980ti then a 1080 is a better upgrade.then

To add to the pile, no point in upgrading. 980 Ti and 1070 are basically the same performance wise.

Currently the only card worth upgrading to is the Titan XP. Even a 1080 is only 20-30% faster, which isn't an amazing upgrade given the price.

I'd hold out for the 1100 series, and/or if AMD's Vega changes prices a lot (or is amazing itself).

While I wouldn't bother with doing that upgrade - I'm not sure I subscribe quite as much to them being equal as some posters above it also seems that the 1070 is quite a bit faster in i.e. DX12 stuff.

I had a 980ti in briefly before the 1070 and one thing I noticed was that in some games even though the average FPS was probably comparable there were cases where the performance in demanding scenes could be quite different i.e. 38-39fps versus 60fps in some places running around in everybody's gone to the rapture.
